The Bookshelf

This isn't a full photo of the bookshelf, but I thought I'd share some of my progress. As you can see from the photo, I have quite a bit of space for books. The books in the picture are two deep, meaning there are two rows per shelf. The shelving unit itself has about ten shelves in total. Part of it is still full of things I need to better organize, or outright get rid of. I have more books on another shelf on the opposite side of my bed. Those books will probably be moved around as well, I'm not sure yet. I technically have three shelves in the room now, one of which is turned sideways and put atop the other shelf. It's situated that way as it's my "nightstand". I have things in front of the shelf pictured that I need to sort out and put in a different place. Maybe photographing it and putting it here will have me getting to it a little quicker.

Haha, yeah. I got rid of most of the magazines a few years ago, but there are still some I need to get rid of. There used to be shelves full of those magazine sorters.

@thislittlepennyearns That's understandable. I would put something like that in a special cover, just to keep them safe.

I do have a lot, and there is a lot more on another shelf. I'm thinking of getting a database program and entering each book in so I know what I have.

@JustBhem Exactly, I will always have a book available, even if the power goes out and I have to read by candlelight. With e-readers, though i still like those, I won't necessarily be able to read from them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Why not. I mean, you can do that. And also for you to have easy access which books you have already.

I remember that years ago I put books in double ranges onto the shelves and one day the shelves collapsed. Check the maximum weight they can bear.

Thank you for the advice. I will keep that in mind. I think these shelves might be screwed into the back, but I will need to check that. I'll test how thick the actual shelf is as well. This is the same shelf that has housed over 800 movies, magazines, and other things, but you can never be too careful.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The DVDs are not as heavy as the books. We had several shelves, some did not move and a few collapsed. It depends also which kind of wood they used.

@LadyDuck I checked the shelves, they aren't nailed in. I'll keep my eye on it. I know the dvds aren't as heavy, but there were a lot dvds on there. Atleast 800 at one time.

Your collection is coming on nicely. I want to paint your bookcase/shelf!

If it wouldn't cost a fortune to ship it over, I would do that and let you paint it. It would be such a hassle to take it outside and paint it, but if I did, I'd paint it a lilac I think.

Honestly I need to work on the closet before I can completely tidy up the area around this shelf. Once I get that situated I can get the shelf and that area sorted. Before I do that, though, I need to sell off all the DVDs. I still have a goal set for myself in regards to getting this all done though.

@Courage7 I've made over $100.00, closer to $200.00 so far. Spent the majority of it on a mini vacation I had a few weekends ago.

I have shelves throughout the house that I need to work on. I got some done before I had company and that felt so very good. Good work getting things caught up and arranged comfortably.

A few years ago I got tired of one book shelf full of my brother's DVDS. I moved all of those dvds to another room and emptied the shelf to put my things in. The other day I emptied that shelf again and it is now in the foyer .I am making progress. The empty shelves in the picture used to hold DVDs. There's a shelf above it that still holds dvds. There's a container on the floor below it that I need to look through, that will be stuff to go to goodwill and stuff that needs to eventually find it's way to a shelf. You are right, it does feel good to get things done. Eventually, I am going to have the closet cleaned out. It is mostly cleaned out now, but there are a few things left to be dealt with.
