Where'd that huge bumblebee go??

Anne and I were sitting on the patio last night (a very warm night), enjoying a cold beverage or two, when a huge bumble bee flew into this hanging flower pot. Since my experience with the butterfly photo the other day, I had the camera handy and thought if I could just make a photo or two it might be good. The pot was a bit over my head, but the bee was so large, I figured I had to get him. Well, I didn't! Even in the 4608 megapixel size, there is not a sign of that black bee with the great yellow tail. Oh, well, the pot came out pretty well, so I thought I'd share it. By the way, after I sat back down, the bee flew up and out of the flowers.

Be careful, those big bumblebees can be dangerous. The pot of flowers look beautiful.

@JamesHxstatic I thought they were yellow jackets, we have them here and they are aggressive even if you leave them alone.

@LadyDuck Yes, especially this time of year. Those things attack for no reason if you try to eat outside.

I have never had any problem with those bees. They are only defensive. There are many yellow jacket wasps around now and they are aggressive.

Are you sure it was not a humming bird? There is a species of hummers that are mistaken for bumblebees.

@JamesHxstatic Okay. I guess that settles that. So where did Big Bee go?

@akalinus As I mentioned in the last line, he finally exited after I sat back down.

There are only two species of hummingbirds in Oregon, the Anna's and the Rufous.

Beautiful purple flowers! Those black bees come and go so quick - they never just hang around!

He was in there the whole time, then flew out after I took the photos. Strange!

I love those big, fat bumblebees! Every spring when the azaleas bloom in front of my house, there are always dozens of them flying around in and out of the flowers. They seem like such gentle bees, I have no fear of them at all.

Insects and birds have a habit of doing that don't they? Waiting till you've given up then flitting about again. By the way, four of our friends are going to the US in about a month and attending a quilt show in Texas. My friend is a quilter. I know it is a long from from Oregon but I wondered if you and Anne were attending.

No, we are not heading back to Texas. Does she do art quilts? Anne has met someone from there who does. Oh, but she lives near Sydney.

@JamesHxstatic I think they are probably just 'normal' quilts although her last one looked pretty 'arty'.
