I work as an administrative assistant for the Human Resources (personnel) department at my company. I love my job, and the people with whom I work are wonderful. I have a set of duties for which I am typically responsibly on a regular basis, but in addition to this, I also help out the managers with their needs. The managers in our department are Alison, the Vice President of Human Resources, Michele, the Talent Acquisition Manager, Shay, the Training Manager, and Julie, the Benefits Manager. I'm Alison's direct assistant, but as I said, I help everyone with their occasional requests. Notice that I said occasional. Like, not every day. Each one of these managers will ask me for something maybe once every couple of weeks, unless there is a department-wide project that we all have to make a huge push for, and that's only happened a couple of times in the almost-a-year that I've worked there. It also didn't happen THIS week, but... On Tuesday, I'm working on this big, ongoing project for Alison, and then Shay asks me to do a fairly involved project that she needs back before the end of the day. So, I switch to that, because Alison knows the other one is going to take a while. But then Alison comes by with another project that she would LIKE to have before 3:00 pm, but definitely NEEDS by the next morning, because she has to go over it with the executives. Fortunately, it's not as big as Shay's project. So, I switch focus AGAIN because that one is due first, but then Michele comes up with a longish list of documents she wants me to print out, after I find them all (they were all in separate folders on our shared drive, it turns out). I told her about the other two things, and she said it was fine, I could just do it when I got to it. So, big pile of stuff, but no worries. I got Alison's done, turned back to Shay's and worked on that until I had to get more info from her. So I sent her an email asking for it and said, "Hey, I can work on Michele's stuff while I wait". At this point, it was about 3:30 pm, and so I'm working on Michele's project and waiting to finish Shay's, and up walks Julie with a stack of papers. For real! I told her about the other projects, and she was also nice about it (Seriously, everybody is really sweet to me). So, I work like ten women and get Michele's project finished, and I'm just about to start Julie's, but then Shay gets back to me and I get her stuff done (but I wait until 5 to send it to her, as she is notorious for sending things back 4 or 5 times for revisions, and I just did NOT have it in me). Finally, I start on Julie's thing at about 4:45. I actually got about a third of the way through the stack, which is pretty decent. She was happy to get it. Michele was thrilled, because she didn't even expect to get hers back today, and I think everyone was impressed. I'm TIRED!

Oh my goodness, what a day! I can imagine how tired you are. How fortunate that they are all so nice. Imagine if they weren't!

I'm not sure I would last too long at it if they weren't!

It sounds to me as if you need a big raise and perhaps a promotion as well.

No, unfortunately. Because I answer incoming calls, I have to do that right up until we close. I guess the good part of that is I never have to stay late (sometimes I stay a few minutes over to finish something up, but that's my choice).

It's nice to be busy, though--it makes the day fly by! I like to be engaged, but not stressed. Fortunately not all of that work had a deadline, so I was really just keeping myself occupied.

I know, it's a little confusing. I usually only have maybe one thing on any given day that I am working on, usually for my boss (Alison), other than my typical duties. It's even even strange to have all four of them ask for help in one week, let alone one DAY!
