Favorite TV Westerns

How many of you are old enough to remember when Westerns weren't reruns? Today, I'm going to start a series of my favorite and maybe not so favorite TV Westerns. First up is Rawhide. Back in the early days of television, when everything was black and white and the color was unknown, and we had only three channels to choose from, comes this first not so favorite, until a few years back. I was never a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, never understanding the point of his movies, however, even before movies, Clint Eastwood was doing television westerns, namely Rawhide. I have to admit he was young and handsome back then. Me, I didn't notice things like that. I was three years old when I was introduced to Rawhide. At least I think I was three. My parents bought our first television in 1956 when my sister was born. I was three. Whether that's when I first saw Rawhide, not sure. Fast forward a few decades, and move into the next millennium and I started looking at Rawhide with different eyes and saw an interesting Western with a handsome cowboy named Rowdy. Any Rawhide fans here? Thanks for reading. Image courtesy of Wikimedia Commons

Nope before my time. I was around by Bonanza and Gunsmoke but I was never a fan of westerns. If there was nothing else on I did watch but did something else while watching like coloring.

@JohnRoberts Thank you for that information. I didn't know when Rawhide started. So, I was six rather than three when I saw it for the first time.

By the time I came along we were down to Bonanza and Gunsmoke as original-run westerns. Oh, The Wild, Wild West, too, but I didn’t pay attention to it.

Being some years older that you, I remember several TV westerns. Bonanza was one of them. But before, my brother was fond of Gene Autry. In movies, I always liked all spaghetti westerns. I found (and find) Clint Eastwood very attractive. But I specially liked the music of them. My husband was fan of John Wayne, but he did not do anything for TV that I know.

@marguicha No, John Wayne was strictly movies. I didn't see any Gene Autry TV or movies, so don't know really anything about him, other than his name. Yes, Clint Eastwood always was a handsome man.

No, John Wayne never did a TV series. Too huge a movie star. You liked the Ennio Morricone scores to Clint's spaghetti westerns.

I know Clint Eastwood but I am not so much of a fan. I did not know this Rawhide. Have a good evening to you.

@JohnRoberts we got them all I think. There was very little Australian content in the early days of our TV. It was either American or English but mostly American.

I do not remember that show at all. We were living in Japan in the 50's. Probably no TV when we were there,

Rawhide never came to Europe in those years. My father bought our first TV set in 1956 and they only broadcast Italian programs at those times. I never liked Western movies, but I like several movies made by Clint Eastwood as director.

Good old Rowdy Yates. Yes, he's the man. I loved those Western black N white shows. I am really fond of them and sometimes I will actually look for some on YouTube like the Rifleman or Gunsmoke. Wagon Train and Branded were two I really enjoyed. Actually I liked most all of them.

I watched Bonanza with my grandpa when I was growing up and maybe a little Rawhide. The other halfs grandma was obsessed with the reruns of The Rifleman and it's become a constant joke to the both of us because we can't stand the show.

What a coincidence! Last night I watched a 1951 western called "Rawhide" starring Tyrone Power and Susan Hayward. The series was probably adapted from that movie.
