Any kind of outdoor event needs a back up plan in case of rain. One of my cousins wedding was set up to be outside. We all showed up and literally right before it was to start, it started down pouring. So, we all got into our cars and drove to the restaurant with a dance floor that was for the reception and had the wedding there. That was their back up plan in case of rain and it was a nice wedding nevertheless. Once the wedding happened, we all were in the one place for the reception. Then, an old college friend of my husband and I , his son was getting married. He and his bride had an outdoor wedding. It ended up being a perfectly sunny day and the wedding and reception (that was right there) went on without a hitch or problem. It was lovely. I did wonder what their back up plan would have been if it had rained and been a wash out.

We have outdoor concerts here and we're always worried about the weather. We might have 100 people outdoors but if it rains only about 60 will fit in the lounge. The rest would have to stand on the verandahs and listen from there.

A backup plan for an outdoor event is always a good idea and a tent at minimum is important.

It is good to have a back up plan when you plan things outside.
