it's been raining since saturday. many areas were flooded. in fact, some dams even let out water. but today, guess what, we woke up to no water! how ironic, right? as expected, the water company was flooded with curses and complaints from angry citizens. thankfully, in our street, the water came back after a few hours, though the pressure isn't as strong. have you ever worked for a business or company or agency that receives a lot of complaints or always made fun of? was it difficult that it made you quit, or do you get immune to them?

I'm working on a call center company before and I usually received a complaint coming from the customers, of course we can't blame them for the service that they're not getting so the thing that we can do is to put ourselves on their foot and solve their problems one by one that ends on happy customer!

@hereandthere Yup! It's a culturing shock especially when I received a call the customer is shouting and cursing you (even if that is for the company not directly to you) but I feel good every time I solved someone's problem because usually at the end of the call they'll apologize to you for the words that they used, and you'll hear them angry at first, and laugh at the end of the call

@tech40 so you eventually learn to tune out the shouting and cursing and just focus on hearing/understanding the issue they're complaining about. it's great that they eventually apologize and even laugh in the end. at least it helps erase/lessen their initial negative impression.

Sort of. The last company I was with, I was the one picking up the phone ALL the time (since I ended up being the only employee). So I had to deal with everyone - good or bad. Sure we had our share of complaints and all I could do was pass on the message to the boss . . . who would in turn give a response that I had to relay back to the customer . Let's just say I learned to become diplomatic to stay out of any drama (as much as I could) but it was harder to do when the person came in in person .

No, in my whole working career I never had an encounter with complaints. But we were trained how to hnadle complaints in the bank, if ever. I just always remember H E A T to apply to complaints. Hear the complaints, Emphatize with the complainant, Apologize in behalf of the company Take the responsibility of looking at the problem.and look for a way to resolve it.

@hereandthere They are taught to be like that, lest the manager will call their attention that someone complained about them for being "mataray" or snob.

yes, i've noticed that with bank tellers and those in new accounts. they don't seem to ever get ruffled. they also offer suggestions about your accounts and even help you when you're confused or hesitant about something.

I haven't thankfully, but one time I was doing telemarketing for a company that was fast and loose. They disappointed a lot of people..including those who worked for them.

that would be even harder - knowing the product or service you're hawking is a little shady.

This has to be tough. People don't always understand it is not that easy to just fix things that go wrong.

I worked at a Ford dealership in the service department for a few years. Customers were always complaining about the problems with their vehicles or the price to fix it. It was very stressful and I was happy to transfer into the accounting department so I didn't have to deal with irate customers all day long.

do they ever train you first how to handle them? is this face-to-face or on the phone? did you ask to be transferred or management decided?

I used to work part-time in the offices of taxi companies. Customers often phoned up to complain about drivers' behaviour or they way they drove (often the same drivers). Drivers would also often phone the office to moan about jobs they were given. The bosses would introduce new ways of doing things and then complain about how staff did things the new way. It was a horrible job and I quit nearly 3 years ago. I certainly don't miss it.

I haven't worked for a business or company like that, but I know our power company must get tons of complaints because we have much to much problems with power. I am not certain how those that do work there cope.

Any company I work for, I look at one thing. How does my paycheck look? Do I still get a paycheck? So long as that paycheck comes I give a damn what the company does or what anyone else thinks about it. If the paycheck stops, there are plenty of other jobs I can take a look at.
