Millions of dollars!

If you happened to win millions of dollars in the lottery or suddenly found yourself very, very rich by some other means - what would you do with the money? First I would make sure myself, family and close friends are well set - then I would do something that I have dreamed about for some years now. One day while driving in the country, we passed through a few villages which were totally depressing. Young men lounged in doorways and on the walls, while young women sat on doorsteps braiding hair, chatting or tending the younger ones. We noticed a few grocery shops, a church, a school and quite a few bars. No wonder the young people appeared so surly - nothing much to do in that village. If I won millions in the lottery, I would build a community center in one such village. It will be equipped with learning and skills training facilities, a cafeteria, football and cricket fields , basketball court and other entertainment. That should definitely give the youth some hope and help keep them off the street. Is there a charitable deed you would want to do with some of your millions?

I would first put in a saving account all the money I need for my older days. Then I would build a place for elders, where couples can stay together, in a small individual apartment, but with a central unit with doctor, nurses, a grocery store and a restaurant, so that they still enjoy life being safe.

would you do it for free and fund it out of your capital or would it be for profit or would it be a place that took profit but put it back into the venture? I actually think quite a lot about what I'd do if I won a big amount such as euro lottery.

Primarily I'd want to keep a lottery win secret so I'd tell my 2 sisters and my dad and that'd be it. I'd then buy a house. Then dish out some cash to family. Then I'd probably wait a while and try to think about how to use the money. I'd need investment advice and maybe legal advice. I'd comntact my bank and find out about confidentiality. Then I'd look at buying a business which would be a hotel or B&B. After that I may look at charity projects.

I always want to win the lottery, and the question is, how will I win when I did not bet any number. The boyfriend will always tell me if I think about winning the lottery. Well, If I will win. Of course, I need to be healthy first, I will have my kidney transplant. That what matters. Then, I will have my own house. I will give houses to my Brothers in the same village so that I can still see them. Also, I will donate to the Foundation I've joined for Kidney Failure patients.

Yes something like you mention and I would love to have some kind of animal centre especially for dogs as they drop them them off in Petrol Stations here and or leave them any old place to fend for themselves and I would like to make a really caring centre or refuge for them as they deserve much better than to be treated so.

@Kandae11 Every Holiday time is when it happens here and the poor things are shoved into kennels that are not fit for any animal to live in and I have seen a few of them.

That's a really good plan , animal shelters are in short supply. I remember last year when residents were fleeing from the wrath of hurricane Maria, many pets bwere left behind to fend for themselves.

@Kandae11 We have a 'Royalty for Regions' scheme here and small country towns can apply for a quite substantial grant to spend in their town. In some cases, you can spot what they've done when you drive through and it makes it look like they have a lot of pride in their town and that things are going well. I'm sure it has to help.

If I won millions of dollars in the lottery I'd want to buy myself my own place (probably an apartment as opposed to a house) and I'd want to travel the world. Maybe I'd also give some to my parents... They spent enough money on me over the years, including my wedding. There is a supermarket near me where I always shop. They sell lotto there. I've never bought any lotto tickets there (aside from the scratch-offs). I just learned that a ticket was bought at this supermarket and the jackpot was won. Wow! Maybe I should start buying lotto tickets there...

@Kandae11 If that happened to me I would buy a place here in Israel hopefully in Jerusalem so Sophie and I can feel secure in our home environment. I would find ways to still earn money so I would not use the money I won and would give to animal shelters and battered women and our Army. I would relax and not worry but that would be a miracle if that happened, so, now I have to live in the real world.

I would love to purchase hectares of land and build a nursing home, an orphanage, an animal shelter and vegetables plantation. The elderly will be able to show love with the kids in the orphanage. They will also be taught on how to take care of animals and learn how to make a living in the farm. It's the perfect ecosystem for me.

The first thing I would do is give 10% off the top to some of the local churches - beginning with my church. Then I would make much needed repairs on mine and my husband's old trucks (we have three), buy a bigger house, buy each of my siblings a new home and give them some money and after that is done I would work with a few of the homeless shelters in our area so they could help more people. I would also help fund a community center where I live to give youngsters a place to go besides the street. There is one in the works here but not enough funding.

@Kandae11 The government does contribute to these types of undertakings, but the thing is the government creates a budget based on the money they have available for different projects or programs. The amount of monies that are then allocated to each project or program is based on priority. The one at the top of their list of priorities are allocated more money than the one on the bottom of the list. Another issue is that when you create the plans for this type of venture you have to come up with a monetary amount that you will need from the government each year. What it will cost to build, furnish and operate each year. Then there are the opposition - some people will oppose having a community center near where they life for fear of gang activity and other criminal activity. Sometimes private funding can be more productive than governmental funding. Like you said - looks like the government would show more interest in our young people because after all they are our future.

Funding is always a problem. One was started two towns away from where I live, but it has not been completed four years later. I would have thought governments would be happy to contribute to such undertakings.

First, I'd buy my parents a house and a business so that they won't need to work much. Then, I'd sponsor clothing and food for the elderly especially those left by their own children. There are some who do not have anyone to take care of them in the homes for the aged so any support given to them would really be a great help.

Most of my money would be invested, and most of my 'charity' would come from the proceeds. But I have always said even just walking around a Walmart parking lot and leaving envelopes with $100 bills on the windows would give me a feeling of happy. But I also believe in what I like to call 'working charity.' That is, you tip heavily hard working people like grocery baggers, maid staff at hotels, waitresses and waiters, and the list goes on. I'd manage it well, and would have loads of fun doing it.
