Rocky Mountain Oysters

More iconic foods by state and we have arrived in California. This state uses one of my favorite vegetable avocado. However looking avocado up on the Internet I discovered that it is classified as a fruit and particularly a single-seeded berry but that doesn’t bother me. Whatever the avocado is I love it. In the state of California, they made delicious Avocado Toast and is a great dish for brunch. There are various ways to prepare it but one is to toast bread, mash or slice avocado and place on the bread. Then you can add a fried egg. Since I like both avocado and eggs I will definitely give this a try. In the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, they have a unique dish known as Rocky Mountain Oysters. Now you know that in the mountains you are not likely to find places to get oysters so we are not talking about shellfish here. What this recipe consists of are calves’ testicles that have been sliced thinly, then breaded and deep-fried. This dish is considered to be really iconic cowboy fare and you can find it on bar and restaurant menus. Connecticut offers the New Haven-style Pizza which is very delicious and is a white clam pie. It consists of Romano cheese, garlic, olive oil, parsley, and clams. Since I am a fan of both pizza and clams and I love linguini with clam sauce I am going to try to make this at home. What do you all say? Wiki photo of Rocky Mountain Oysters

Glad to know that @jstory07 I know I had never had beef lungs before I lived in Latvia and discovered if made right they were really delicious. I know I would not attempt to make Rocky Mountain Oysters myself but if I could try them in a restaurant I would.

Though I like fried foods I never did like Rocky Mountain Oysters. Avocado toast is not my thing but I make a great guacamole!! Made it tableside at Who Song and Larry's--a Mexican restaurant I worked at here in Fort Lauderdale. PS I make a GREAT linguini with white clam sauce BUT you will never get me to put clams on pizza--pizza gets cheese, sauce and either pepperoni, sausage--never ham, pineapple, shrimp or anything else!!

I love avocado and have them whenever we can! It's interesting in other countries they do treat avocado as a fruit (as in desserts) whereas here we treat them like a vegetable.

I don't think I'll be trying the Rocky Mountain oysters any time soon. The others sound good though.

Don't know that I would like the Avocado Toast but ya never know, when I lived in Colorado my uncle had me try Rocky mountain oysters when I was younger without telling me what they were. I tried them and they weren't that bad until he told me what I had just eaten, just the thought of it made me queasy but they are very popular there. I am not much for clam either though that pizza does sound tasty.

Colorado mountain dishes are indeed funny. I was there with my nephew and in the menu I saw Buffalo Wings When the dish arrived you can guess my expression. I pretended to my nephew that I knew what that dish would be (lol)

I've always thought of avocado as a fruit. We used to have a tree in the backyard. We usually eat it mashed and sweetened, or as an ice cream (I mean, frozen). I wouldn't mind trying the 'oysters' and clam pie, either. I'd try anything at least once, as long as it's cooked.

I love avocado toast, even without an egg. I also mash it up and put it on hamburgers instead of ketchup. I will eat almost anything, but not Rocky Mountain Oysters. I live in Connecticut and can attest to New Haven pizza and its while clam pie. Actually, all the best pizza here in Little Italy is delicious and made by Italians from many regions of Italy and Sicily.

Ah, yes every time I go out in this tropical heat I get Rocky Mountain High and wish I could sit down in a pile of snow. I mean my hometown NYC got sizzled in the summertime too but somehow here with the humidity and those palms all around I feel that I have no air just a dizzy head @JohnRoberts for that reason the shopping cart I use with four wheels is great to hold onto as I walk along

I was born in Ventura, CA and lived in Bakersfield, CA for many years. A little place near Santa Paula grows a lot of avocado but there are a few other areas too. They are grown on trees so are fruit. It was common for native CA to grow their own trees from seeds. I had a huge one. I love to put them in smoothies. I've never had rocky mountain oysters even when grandpa did the deed and cooked them. Nope.
