I Am On A Genealogy High Right Now

Hi Everyone. I was at a Genealogy Conference Thursday to Saturday in Newton which is a Boston suburb. It was called Celtic Connections and concentrated on Irish, Scottish, and Welsh topics. I took a mix of Irish and Scottish classes. I have been doing genealogy for over 30 years and I do know a lot but every time I go to one of these I come home with some kind of a new idea. And it has paid off, today I found something I have been looking for for years. My great grandmother's sister's marriages. So exciting, I actually need to look at my DNA matches and see if one of the names I found actually comes up among my matches. So sorry I haven't been around but when I get in the genealogy zone I am rather obsessed.

That stuff is pretty interesting to read up on, my grand mother was doing the family tree when she passed. I have always wanted to pick it up for her but just don't seem to ever get to it.

My cousin and I did my Dad's side of the family and we came up with over 50000 relatives.

Wow, that is a lot of relatives. though I suppose most of us have that many if we go back far enough.

This surely is an addictive hobby. My niece had started a chart asking to my mom all the names she could remember. I would say, she did this just in time.

Yes that is one thing most of us don't do, interview the oldest people in our family while we still have them.

@BelleStarr I never thought to ask my great grandparents and my grandparents. I am glad my niece did.

I understand her obsession, it is who we are and it is the best history, our personal history.

That is so interesting. I am glad you are able to attend and get the information. I want to do one of those at home DNA tests things when I get extra money.

It is a lot of fun and it can take you to places you never expected. Our ancestors did live lives and did many more things than we anticipate.

How fun! You are finding your heritage! I have paperwork that was written by my great grandmother. It takes my Dad's side of the family back to Dublin, Ireland. Some of it is quite hard to read due to her handwriting.

Of course, the problem with Irish genealogy is that most of the records no longer exist so it does make it hard to get back very far.
