Do you have train tracks in your area?

We have train tracks around here but none of them are that close. I would say the closest ones are about a mile away. In fact a mile away in several directions you will find train tracks. I hear trains at night lots of times if the window is open..but I am wondering what track they are coming from. I can't really tell by the sound. My son lives next to a metro rail station and he hears trains entering and leaving the station all the time. He can even hear the conductor..calling out the station. I have been there and heard that as well. Do you get distracted by trains in your area?

Yes we have quite a lot of train tracks around my area. It's a pain going down some streets as you have to wait a long time until the train passes.

@Freelanzer In the small town near here..there is a train that goes through about 3pm everyday. Heaven help you if you have to wait for it..because it is about 15 minutes. It is a mainline CSX train I think.

The only time I did not hear trains was when I lived in Florida by the beach.

@caopaopao I think if you live very close to the tracks your house can even shake a little due to the vibration.

@snowy22315 My husband used to rent a house next to the railway station when he started to work. Every day he sleeps with the roar of the train. Then when he moved downtown. He didn't even get used to the quiet environment at first.

Whenever, I hear them I am always wondering what track they are on. Some of them are used more than others. Most of them honestly, I have never seen a train on them.

@snowy22315 I know where the tracks are and where is the closest railway station. Not close enough to get annoyed by the noise.

One day when I was doing a focus group in Richmond..in an area they call Shockoe Bottom AKA "The Bottom" an Amtrak train passed within 10 yards of the building I swear. I could look inside the train. Not really sure that was the best place to put an office building!

I actually love the sound of any trains. I do have a train track directly behind my building here.

We have trains all over but you get used to them. I use to live across the street from train tracks and after a week or so unless someone mentioned a train going by I never paid attention or heard them! LOL

We have a lot of trains here and we only hear them if the windows are open as well, we can hear the whistle. Yesterday we were coming through town and the rails were down and lights flashing for the train. We sat for 10 min and then realized that there was NO train. we all had to back up in the street to go around the tracks.

Hmm, that must have been strange. One time we were taking some back roads home and came upon a train track..we were almost on top of the tracks before we saw the gate coming down. We ended up being pretty close to that train..

@snowy22315 That would be pretty scary, they should have gates like ours, they go down without the train. lol

I like hearing trains but the line that is quite close doesn't have trains any more. We just big trucks on the highway instead.
