I have begun to stop taking Lorazepam aka Ativan. It has a way of taking short term memory and erasing it. In the last few months I have had serious memory problems. I have trouble concentrating too. One reason might be Ativan, aka Lorazepam, for high anxiety. I have decided to make a go at stopping this drug for good. So far taking a 3mg nightly melatonin tablet to help me sleep instead of another drug. I don't like drugs and the only drug I will take now is for my blood pressure. My memory has been in a way, messed up from taking Lorazepam for over 2 decades. But memory can fail as you get older. Memory that most take for granted. I don't remember things in the way the average person does. I have to Google everything to make sure I don't make the critical mistakes of posting stuff that isn't accurate 100%. But still I do get some of my facts wrong and willingly admit it. If you catch me doing this, let me know in the comment section of my discussions. My aim is to be more accurate with the facts so that way the reader can pretty well trust me for being a truthful writer, unless I am deliberately trying to write fiction. And of course the movies ...

The older I get, the less recent memory I have. I am now a list maker for some things. I refuse to have anxiety for not remembering. I also tend to foget words. I know there is a word for that, but I remember it later. I am accepting that too. What the ….!

@lookatdesktop what´s CRS? I did not find it online. I don´t particularly like the American way of using letters instead of words. It makes it impossible to understand for a non native speaker Don´t you agree?

@marguicha , It is a term that is best put in 3 letters. It is basically a kind of humor. CRS is short for Can't Remember S- Things. In polite society the S-bomb is prohibited.

I have tried to stop taking that medication several times but finally I managed to cut back every other day for a week then for a few more weeks took one every 3 days or so and now I am off it for the past 5 consecutive days. My wife stopped taking it that way, instead of cold turkey stopping it. If she can do it, so can I. I am quite determined. I do not want my memory to suffer any more than it already has.

Every medicine has side effects. Sometimes we can't rely too much on medicine.

There are times when I really needed aspirin or Tylenol for a bad headache or tooth ache. And I really do hope Centrum multi-vitamins have no side effects. And Fish oil with Omega 3 and Garlic gel caps. They are of course, all over-the-counter.

This is why we need some fruits and veggies because of the memory problem.

Yes, normal aging and normal memory loss progression is okay because it will not be made worse and to write articles and read and be able to concentrate is the trade off and being able to deal with my anxiety in other ways by staying active and focusing on the positive side of things helps a lot.
