Getting some home improvement done this summer

We've lived in this older ranch for 14 years now and not much has been improved since that first month after we bought the house and did a ton to it. My husband can do almost everything so he won't pay anyone else to do it, he doesn't want to do it, and he is too proud to ask our family and friends for help. My parents have been doing a TON for my sister for the past 4 years since she had her 1st child and even more since she had her 2nd. . . child care, home improvement--you name it. This summer they helped to finish off their upstairs bathroom while they were away on vacation. My parents and their best friends also busted their asses this past month to help my cousin and his wife get the house they bought into a state in which they could move in and the men also built them a gorgeous deck. Sooooo, I think my mom and dad were feeling a little guilty about neglecting us and our house a bit. My mom was already here once to paint and my parents were here to hang curtains. They were both here to paint some trim and some more baseboard heaters, etc today. At least the work in my house is pretty easy. I mean I need a new kitchen but we aren't asking them to do that. In fact, I'm not asking them to do any of it. My mother is the one who keeps insisting on coming over and doing stuff. Most of what she wanted painted is done now. Next up she wants to paint all of the kitchen cabinets. My father is about to stroke out because he has already killed himself this summer. Oh well, at least the trim and heater baseboard and door in the kitchen looks nice and sparkling white tonight.

I can paint. I just need the motivation to do so. With my parents here, I happily painted 2 coats on the kitchen door and the trim around it as well as scrubbing the baseboard heaters before my mom painted them.

Hell yeah. It is the original 1960s layout and built in cabinets. It desperately needs an update.

That would be wonderful to have such help right at hand. I need the floors redone in this little place but I sure can't afford what the contractor says he has to have for the job.
