Sensitive Subjects

A relative complained bitterly about one of her recent purchases: some expensive undies. Why she was not happy? One of them, same size as the others, got a long tear after just one wash.
She made a good point of why she couldn’t complain to the store for an exchange, because:
- it is embarrassing, IT being undies.
- the store might think the undies got into such a state due to her bum bigger than the underwear itself.
- IT was worn once & hence, becomes a sensitive sensitive subject to discuss to strangers in a public place.
- etc.
I agreed with her. That was surely a sensitive matter . Sounds like a bad investment for her there. On the other hand, perhaps I would get rich faster if I had a boutique selling only very expensive underwear ?
The wealthy are not likely to ask for a refund or an exchange for these purchases (bad or not), correct?

I have had problems with expensive undies. Usually in my country, you have to return things only if you have not used them. Stupid, but that´s it. So my way to solve that problem was never to buy that brand again AND tell the people in the shop what had happened.

@YrNemo I agree. I have noticed that in many garments, the material is good, but it has been sewed with a dull needle (hence holes later on).

If she bought them individually then she can't return them, but if she bought a package of three or more she should be able to return the unused portion of it.

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe you really should open a lingerie boutique.

@YrNemo But still I wouldn't bring it in if I washed it. I guess I am thinking of where I used to work - the owner would not do anything for the customer if the clothing were washed (we manufactured it). I don't think I'd have a problem speaking out about underwear . . . but if I washed it, then they could assume I wore it - it'd just be something they couldn't sell again regardless. It'd just be a hassle to even try to return (I would think ).

There is a rule where I get this stuff from and that is once purchased it cannot be returned. So no point in complaining except may be one can post a review.

@YrNemo I agree with sites that do that Inner wear should not be returned

@allknowing there should be some sort of compensation however if the items are very expensive but with bad quality (say, a malfunction or whatever defects within a day of two of the purchase), shouldn’t it?

@YrNemo You should prove first that it is bad quality. Most women buy too small and then the underwear breaks. It is even embarrassing to bring it back saying you wore only once and it broke and the sale person looks at you and say "of course it broke, you bought too small". I do not buy anymore expensive underwear, they are more fragile than those you normally find in the normal stores.

@LadyDuck Your post reminded me suddenly of a few unmentionable items on sale online. The way those flimsy things were made (and wore by the models), I don't know why anyone bothered to pay money for them . Guess they were made from China for small women but worn by models who are tall and significant in size, since those things seemed to disappear completely on the models .

The stores still should give some compensations or refund for bad quality sale items whatever they are. There is such a thing as obligations from sellers to sell only reasonable quality items if the charges are considered as high. For cheap stuff & potentially fake items at extremely low prices, buyers shouldn’t really complain I guess in certain situations.
If the intention is there to just make money unfairly from the point of view of a rogue seller, then one could argue either way (or any way one could) to take money then run from obligation.
However, how many of us would or could dare complain about a bad buy re: expensive underwear? (unless to close relatives or friends). This is a sensitive subject .

She could write a letter to the store, explain the situation and why she is disappointed. They may compensate in some way. It would also be useful for them to know; if other customers have had the same issue with the same underwear, it could be a manufacturing fault.

when i buy underwear, i scrutinize them well. i even stretch them to check if the garter goes off or if it permanently stretches itself already.

Very disappointing. Maybe the least she can do is to complain through online (online store) under anonymous identity. Im doing that sometimes.

I would disagree, the wealthy would most assuredly ask for a refund, that is why they are wealthy, no waste. I would bring them back and get a new pair but I would wear the other pairs first in case my bum was too big for them lol
