Make new friends, but keep the old

Yesterday my doctor was concerned that I have nothing to relieve my stress if it is raining and I cannot work outside. I told her that the next few days will be filled with friend visits. I have to travel a ways to meet up with them, sometimes. My friend Jane likes to go to Wendy's in Hillsboro for coffee when we get together. We have not been able to do so since May. We had a long visit, and it was good. I have known her for about thirty five years. Jane lives in a town that is even smaller than the one I live in. While in Hillsboro, which is 23 miles away, I went to the ET Cetera shop. That is a thrift store sponsored by the Mennonite Brethern Church. I like the bargains I find. While I was there I texted another friend who has just moved there a few months ago. She is more than a friend, really. She was my roommate my first year of college. We have known each other 47 years. We visited for about five hours. There are two more friends I need to visit with soon. We will see when we can fit it in. One will probably be in September. Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.

Yes, it is actually a song. I have heard it all my life.

@GardenGerty That's one I don't know. Mum used to recite a little poem that was similar.

I do agree. Mine did not tell me how to rid myself of stress. Maybe I should marry a rich man and ditch all work

She was concerned because my preferred method is to mow the lawn and push heavy furniture around indoors. I do not often visit with friends except for you guys online, but the friends are out there.

Sometimes they hunt me down. The first one I had coffee with has been a long time inspiration to me.

I do not worry as much as my doctor does. She sees what it does to my health to always be a caregiver.

Old friends are the best, those you know you can rely on. It's good to make new friends, but you have to "test them" first.

We have moved to such distances that we cannot visit as often. No casual running in to them, we have to plan dates.
