Stockpiling

I think it's useful if one stockpiles. But here is my question, does one do this on food or household products or both. Today I was standing outside, and I saw a flatbed truck loaded with hay, of course it was strapped on. I hear this helps you to save money, so if you stockpile, please share your tips with me. I have begun using coupons, but only buy one paper a week. Not trying to extreme coupon, but would like help in stock piling. Thanks you.

The way @andriaperry mentioned is a good one. Only stockpile on freezer items that you know you will use before they can get freezer burned. I have a cousin that actually loses money for that reason. She will over buy on meat when it is on sale cheap. But then because she does not get it cooked in a year or 2 she has to throw it out.

Thank you, my husband had relatives who use to put up tons of peas. Then the next year they would give away a lot, and start all over again. I never did get that.

If I stockpile any food its canned goods. I used to extreme coupon and I have a stockpile of a few things, cleaners are one. Its really hard to extreme coupon now because the value went so low on the coupons it does not save enough to buy the paper. So I stopped buying them and I just print what I need, that is usually one or two of the same coupon, that is all that is allowed. Use the coupons on buy one get one free deals for the max benefit. I do the 80/20 method. each shopping trip I buy 80% what I need and 20% stockpile. lets say I have $100 to spend, I will buy the food I need to make it to the next shopping trip $80, then I will stockpile something I use a lot, like a case of green beans that may be on sale, or even meat that is on sale, I will make portion size meals and freeze it. Anyways $20 for the stick up stuff. Last week the nose tissue was on sale buy one get one and I printed coupons and stocked up on those.

I love watching extreme couponing. And I would like to try it myself.
