"I just met you, and this is crazy
so here's my pusscat - her name is Daisy"
Sorry - such a catchy little song.
Yesterday I introduced you to Milo, the CPO (Chief Purring Officer) at our home. Today I'd like you introduce you to his sister, Daisy Dora Brown. They are litter mates and were born last February to a mum called Juno.
Daisy is a brown Burmese - in America they call them 'sable' though I have no idea why. Daisy's mum was also a brown Burmese and I wasn't immediately impressed by the colour. Our aim had been to find a blue boy kitten and another litter mate for him though ideally we were looking for two boys. Juno had only four kittens and only one was a boy. We were REALLY lucky that the boy turned out to be blue.
We had lost our big blue cat Baloo - the one sticking his tongue out in my profile photo - a few weeks before Daisy and Milo were born and I was grieving badly. Only another crazy blue boy would do for me.
At the time we had two cats - Pandora and Bagheera - a mother and son who'd always been together. I wanted two boys because Pandora was a real alpha female and I thought she might not accept another girl in the house. Very sadly, between meeting the kittens and taking them home at 3 months old, Pandora died of kidney failure, much too young and much too quickly.
Daisy is not named after anybody - my husband just picked the name because he thought it suited her. Her middle name is Dora after poor Pandora.
Daisy is the brains and the brawn of the household. She's a tiny little thing, dwarfed by her brothers, but what she lacks in bulk, she makes up for with cattitude. It's Daisy who deals with intruding cats that come into the garden, standing them down and telling them to 'Move on'. It's hilarious to see her take on a cat twice her size and intimidate him out of her space.
Daisy is a very shiny girl and her coat is incredibly glossy. She's more wary than her brother. Milo goes through life assuming that everybody will love him and inviting himself into their lives. He's a lot like his Hu-daddy. Daisy is more like Hu-mummy (i.e. me). We both take our time to assess a situation before we rush in. We might seem a bit stand-offish but we're just being polite. Whilst Milo is already through the neighbour's kitchen window and heading for her sofa, Daisy and I will be outside wondering if they might be doing something else and it might be inconvenient for us to drop in.
