Do you have any experience with fasting (not eating any food for a certain period of time)? Do you have any experience with calorie restriction (eating less calories on certain days)? There seems to be some evidence that it might be an important factor in being healthier and living longer? Do you have any experience or some thoughts on this topic? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know that some people fast for religious reasons. Do you? I have been Intermittent Fasting (IF) for some time now and have seen some benefits to my health such as I seem to have more energy than I use to have. I find that I enjoy being healthy and will incorporate different ideas into my routine so that I can be healthier longer. Do you? I found this interesting video. I hope that you also find it interesting. It is about a man who who got a bad report on his state of health and went on a search to improve his situation. Would you do that? * At the 4:00 minute mark there is a man that was 101 at the time of the making of this video that ran a marathon.

Yes, I have fasted before. This year i went on the Daniel fast. It really makes a difference. When I was a lot younger, I would do 3 days easy.

@buenavida The day went pretty smooth. I went to my place of worship and did some visiting after and felt good. I am now drinking some water and will eat shortly. I may repeat this next weekend also. I will see how I feel.

I am now doing a 24 hour fast and have just a few minutes left. I ate no food and drank no liquid. I feel good. This is the first where I have gone 24 hours and may do this once a week. Could you explain how you do your fast and your cleanse and do you do them both at the same time?

That's an interesting video and it makes me feel guilty! I have fasted before, both for religious and health reasons and I know it helps clear the mind. I can't do it completely any more because of kidney disease. It puts too much stress on the kidneys. One thing the video didn't stress is that during a fast, your body removes toxins.

@1hopefulman Doing a fast is simple, so don't overthink it. Decide whether you want to do a full fast or a partial one. The part where he ate a 50 calorie soup wasn't a total fast. From my experience, eating nothing at all and drinking only water is easier. I think it's because the stomach and taste buds "go to sleep" after awhile of no stimulation. If you eat a little, you wake that up again. Most of my fasts have been 24 hours but I have done a few three day fasts. Start at night so you are a few hours into it before you wake up and have to face it. It isn't easy at first, but the farther you go, the easier it gets. They say that your immune system is reset (whatever that means) after a three day fast. Look at it this way. Mankind has, until recently, survived periods of near starvation and periods of bounty. I think we were created to endure "feast or fast." We will not hurt ourselves (if we're reasonably healthy) by not eating a few meals.

How did you do your fast? When we have health challenges we have to be careful as to what we do. Yes, it clears a lot of toxins and that's what I want to do.

Interesting - I only looked at a part of it, will continue tomorrow. I have fasted in the past, in the 1970s and 1980s using veg juices from A. Vogel and others - (organic) felt great - have to do more research and watch all of this video.. Thank you for this discussion!

No, I do not fast, but my daily calories intake is lower than those "suggested" for my age and weight. I feel fine and healthy and I do not care to eat more.

I used to fast occasionally many years ago. I have heard that it could be good for your health but can't say from personal experience. Usually when I did it was more for a spiritual experience. I do believe that our body requires certain basic nutrition daily to be healthy which you won't get when fasting.

There are different theories. I am just finishing a 24 fast and feel good. I use to fast once a week some years back and always enjoyed it. I may reinstate the routine. I am reading a lot of material on fasting these days.

Yes, being balanced is important! The problem is figuring out what is balanced. Doctors are telling us that there is a serious problem with obesity these days. I think being healthy and getting a good checkup also makes sense to me. Fasting has a long history and may play an important role in staying healthy. We each have to see what works for us.

I have not fasted and I know that it could be healthy but never tried it for the reason that I could easily lose weight. And I could even lose weight fast without fasting and without exercise. If I eat less than what I should, I can lose 3kg in one week. And that is without exercise at all. So I usually eat double than a normal woman my age would. Just so I could maintain my weight. It took me several years to reach my ideal weight, I don't want to lose that.

If one eats healthy, they may not need to fast as they are already healthy, unless they want to fast for spiritual reasons. .

That's interesting. I don't usually eat between about 7pm and 10 or 11am. I'm retired and never feel hungry at breakfast so I don't have any. So it's only a very short fast.

@1hopefulman Yes, I have a lot of exerperience in fasting. When I turned 13 I started fasting for our holiday called Yom Kippur which is our Day of Atonement. It is a major fast so when we start fasting the night before and I usually go to bed before the fast is over so I fast till the next morning. As i started my journey in Israel to become religious I started fasting on the other fast days.
