Local experience

I have always wanted to visit USA. Not only is it a beautiful country with really iconic sites but I am excited to see my families and friends there and get to see them in their second home country. But we always see in the media all the problems confronting the country and sometimes that is all you know about the country. My partner doesn't see the fascination for US saying that it's not safe because of the shootings, racism, terror threats, etc. He even drags into the conversation the issues on health care even if it will not affect me directly being just a tourist (I presume?). So my question is, is the local feel not as bad as it is portrayed in the media? Or is my partner's feelings too biased? or warranted.

That's ridiculous that the US isn't safe. We have issues like any other country and no more or less dangerous than other countries. What issues about healthcare? Obamacare solved all.

True. What country doesn't have its share of problems right? And of course it's ridiculous to think that the things we see and hear on TV and the news represent the whole country.

if, when you visit the us, you'll be staying with people you know and they'll be taking you around, then i'm sure you'll be safe and enjoy your time.

I think media always highlights the negatives of places and not the positives
