If I had a new car I would be happy.

Yea, that is what people say. but I beg to ask these questions ... Does a new car make you think about that first fender bender? scratch or dent you might get in a parking lot? Does a new car mean, making payments every month and paying premium insurance on it and worry that it might be stolen? Yea, a new car is great but that don't make it any better if the roads are in bad disrepair and traffic is congested and so forth. But an old car that already has dents and dings, but may still have a good AC and Stereo system, maybe that would be less of a pain than a brand spanking new one, and a second hand car has already been broken in, so to speak. Well, thinking back on all of the OLD CARS I have owned in my life, none of them were cream puffs. They had all had something that was always needing fixing. They might have been broken in or broken into or just plain BROKEN. Fix Or Repair Daily? Get it? F O R D .... or for that matter C H E V Y - Can't Have enough ..... I am stumped. I can't do it. I wanted to finish the rest of it but ran out of words to make any sense out of that acronym.

I have owned only one new car in my life and it got totaled in a wreck. I have had serviceable used... I mean pre-owned cars.

It is very practical to own a pre-owned vehicle. But I wonder what a hummer would feel like even though the mileage is horrific. The closest thing to a new car was a hot wheels. LOL

I’ve only ever had new, leased cars. They are great because the worries about maintenance and such are not my problem. Our SUV is 9 years old and we obviously own it. It only has like 70,000 miles on it and it has not had any issues. It is a Toyota and there is a reason why we selected that brand to purchase. As for worries about accidents. . . That’s what insurance is for. NJ has the highest car insurance rates in the nation. Might as well use it if we need it. I would be annoyed if I was constantly spending time and money at repair places dealing with an older car. I’d rather spend more money in car payments on a new car.

Yep. You started out the right way so you didn't make it a repeat performance like I have done over and over again, expecting a different outcome.

@lookatdesktop That's the way my family has always done it. New cars (though my parents always bought them) and then turn them in pretty quickly before they lose too much value for another new one.

@NJChicaa , This is exactly what a neighbor of ours did for life. Every year he traded off his car for the next newest model and he always had a very nice new car, back in the 60's.

I had one car in my life a Hyundai. It was shipped to Latvia when I moved ther3e. It serviced me well for a number of years and then gave3 some money when it was sold as scrap. After that, I relied on my two feet and was glad not to have the expense of a car. Now back in the U.S. I never want to have the expense of a car. I will manage any way I can.

@lookatdesktop thank you for the info but still no way. There is insurance needed, upkeep and gas to keep it going etc.

@RasmaSandra , Okay my friend. Just enjoy getting around any way that is most convenient to you. Anyway, not owning a car is actually a plus to the global environment.

Just to let you know, you can buy a car, USED, for under 1500. Even less. But then there are also Rhodes cars, pedal power. And there are little motor bikes that get very good mileage. For instance, take a look at this one. The Honda Spree for under 300 bucks!

Can't Have Enough Vision Yesterday. That's the best I can do. I agree with your reasoning about new cars vs. old cars. I've only had one new car in my life, and that was back in the early 70's when a new car, a van in our case, cost $4500.

@lookatdesktop What was even funnier, when we went to get a new car, the used car was the same price as the new van when we bought it. Crazy. In just three years the prices had changed that much.

In my lifetime I've had both new and used cars. Upon affordability, I'd prefer new to used for not mechanical minded at all. Used is quite a savings though. On the news, someone bought used stolen car. So the DMV says check with them before you buy used from individuals.

I have enough money in savings to buy a new car and pay cash. We have done that twice now. My last new car lasted me 22 years. I hope my Subaru lasts me for over 20 years. Than I pay my savings back.

Cash is always best because the interest rates are high.

Eh, I would want a new car only if I could have my own race track to go with it. I am done driving in traffic.
