Gray Skies, Quiet Morning, and then the Lawn Mower

I was enjoying a quiet morning of catching up on my e-mail, doing a few Spanish lessons on Duolingo, and perusing my Twitter feed when my missus decided she wanted to mow the lawn. Mowing the lawn, for my missus, is a cathartic exercise in which she sees the grass as all the things that are aggravating her and the lawn mower as her tool of vengeance against them. Now that I have my new hip, I could mow the lawn, but my missus is adamant that the grass is hers to mow. I'll admit, I didn't argue very hard against the idea. I've never enjoyed yard work much. Oh, when we first bought the house I was all enthusiastic about having my own yard to take care of, but the novelty soon wore off and mowing became just another chore. Not so for my missus. She sees yard work as a connection to her youth on the farm and her father, deceased now these 36 years. As a good husband, I won't deprive her of that experience. I have thought we should buy a pair or riding mowers like the one in the photo. Then we could have mowing races. So, she's mowing and I'm, theoretically, working on the manuscript for Storm Damage, my next book. I did eventually get a lot done on it yesterday and will eventually get more done on it today. How is your Sunday going? Well, I hope. Peace and Love.

So your attitude is, you wanna mow? Mow to your heart's content!

@JohnRoberts I tried that with the laundry, but she didn't go for it.

Pretty much sums it up. Mowing for me is an obligation. For her it's therapeutic.

@DWDavis Now if you can dream up some more similar tasks she would enjoy as "therapeutic" that you would grudgingly (secretly happy) give up.

Mowing is like meditation to me. I am deep in thought. Sometimes I sing, I am not sure of anyone hears me but it doesn`t matter if they do. I have mowed grass all my life and at one time ran my own lawn service/ landscaping business. Ya know I have not made any nice flower beds in ages.

I had a riding mower for a while, a gift from my mother-in-law of all people. Unfortunately, most of our yard is not well set up to mow with a riding mower and I sold it after a couple of years. I did listen to music while I mowed and tried to use the time productively for thought. Mostly all I thought was how close I was to being done.

Yesterday was a rough one. My fibromyalga decided to go on overdrive, and I had a horrible headache and could hardly move all day. Was supposed to go with my husband to his nephews sons 4th birthday party, but ended up having to stay home instead.

I'm sorry your fibro is flaring. I know what that's like. I was diagnosed 19 years ago. It has been flaring up due to the stress of being back on my feet all day. I hope you feel better soon.

Glad to know things are good with you. I'm having a very nice day. I made the missus a very nice salad to go with the leftovers we shared for lunch after all her hard work in the yard.

You remind me that I should do some Welsh lessons. I haven't in quite awhile. My Sunday is going well. There is not much planned. My nephew is here still, but he may be leaving in an hour or two. If not, I am sure he will wrangle me into playing a game of clue or monopoly with him. I'll do it, anything to get him off of staring at a phone screen all day. I hope your Sunday continues to go well.

Is there a certain reason for the Welsh lessons, or just personal curiosity? My son tried Gaelic lessons for a while, but decided to stick with his German. He lived in Germany for three months a couple summers ago and loves it there.

@DWDavis I had an aunt who lived in Germany, Oh.. Maybe 30 years ago now? With her ex husband, one of their kids and another "in the oven." It's pure curiosity that has me learning Welsh. If your son ever wanted to learn a Celtic language, Welsh is the way to go. Welsh is phonetic, but the mutations are a nightmare. I haven't even tried tackling them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think my son is going to stick with perfecting his German. He's hoping to return to the University where he interned that summer as a visiting researcher after he finishes his PhD.

my neighbors all have hired crews cause they're too lazy to do it themselves.they come 2 to 3 times a week,so almost any given day in summer somebody's cutting it.
