Fixed Income

United States

I know there are some people here on a fixed income. As I am myself. I really try to watch my spending and stay on track. But I have a question, is there anyway being on a fixed income, and you get behind, how on earth do you catch up? Or do you? It's not me, but pretty soon, I believe I am going to witness, somebody hitting rock bottom.

I'm glad you watch your spending and stay on track. Otherwise, I hope you don't witness anyone hitting rock bottom. I doubt one can catch up then.

@popciclecold That sounds awful, and I'm so sorry for her. That's no way to live.

@andriaperry is right. Shed the stuff that weighs you down and get out from under it. Your friend needs to quit fooling herself. I think you have mentioned her before. Or people can do like you do and go out and get a job.

You both are right. She's getting into a worse condition, and right now it's out of control. In the last three days, she has gotten 4 overdrafts. The assistant manager, told me he has orders to take no more checks from her.

Some people use material possessions as a means to fill a hole in their life. I'm not saying that to make excuses for your (client?). Sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they come out from the fog / cloud they found themselves in. I hope that person learns from this experience. You can't spend money you don't have, and just because you have money doesn't mean you should spend it either.

We know that but she don't under the concept of a fixed income. She has 2185 each month. Pays no rent. By the middle of the month she has nothing.

@popciclecold She doesn't have to pay rent, or she doesn't pay the rent she owes? It sounds as if she needs someone who will knock some sense into her.

@popciclecold Wow, just wow! I guess she feels as if she doesn't need to worry about any kind of bills, or the what if's. Like, what if her brother in law stops paying her.

You really have to cut back hard. That would be the only way. Write out a budget according to bills compared to money coming in and decide what they can do without or at least less of.

Eva, every Thursday come what may she's going to get her hair done. She gets manicure, and pedicures, and no one I mean no one is going to stop her. She pays 80.00 dollars yo get her hair done.

@popciclecold Then all you can do is let her crash. That might or might not make a difference. The only other way would be for someone else to control the money and simply give her an allowance.

I think that person needs to let go of something. Sell some stuff also to help him/her with the cash.

I think is the concern of every fixed income earner. I think when situations like that happens I usually do slowing down on expenses on other things that you usually do to catch up on the expenses I have to pay. It is rather hard to do at times because fines, penalties do catch up also when you fail to pay on time on your bills/expenses. So the best is really to stick on your allotted budget every month so you won't be behind any payments. If you can find other alternative means to earn then the more it is beneficial with you since you might just be able to cover everything without cutting on other expenses.

I have learned a lot watching her. She does not do any thing you have suggested. Therefore her situation is getting worse. The market will not checks from her anymore. It's really bad, I have never seen it like this.

@1hopefulman She won't I saw that tonight. She cooked brownies, as soon as they came out of the oven she get on the phone and call her friend and say come. Then another relative called say they want to come by and cook something. Didn't bring nothing, and they both in looking in freezer, and they cooking when I left. She'll never learn. Remember me in your prayers.

I am on a fixed income and I get by. The first thing she needs to do is balance her checkbook, I know people that will write a check knowing that it may bounce, if it clears the bank before they can deposit more money. What they fell to understand is the cost of overdrafts adds up. She also needs to set a budge and pay all her bills before she buys the things she really doesn't need. If she's bringing in that much income a month and not paying rent, she shouldn't have to worry about getting by.

That is the reason. for all of this. In July she went to Lowe's and bought a gas grill, then she decided to have s bar b que, and bought 10 steaks and invites a lot of people over, they brought nothing. By the 15 she was broke.

@popciclecold I hate to say but she is going to have to learn on her own. If anyone is helping her out by giving her money when she runs out needs to stop. Everyone needs to let her know up front when she first receives her monthly income that she better make it last because she's not borrowing anymore money. I had to do that exsact thing to my own daughter, she was the same way. As long as everyone keeps bailing her out, she will never change, she knows if she runs out of money there's always someone she can get it from.

I am not sure. Since I started to work online, the income is fixed. But then, if there is no extra work, it cannot be maintained.

@popciclecold I am sure that we can have the cash inflow that we don't need to work for it. I hope it is a passive one.

People who notice they are going to hit the bottom must try to shred any expense that is not absolutely necessary. Cut the cable TV, renounce to the car, eat at home that is 4 times less expensive than buying ready made food.

It is good to watch and keep our spending on track so we will not end with nothing at all. Overspending can cause our downfall. I avoid overspending.
