family and age

I'm back home from my trip West. The photo is an interior shot of the house that my husband and I bought. Terrible smoke smog waited for us. Fires from up north are causing a dense blanket of smoke here. People are advised to stay indoors as much as possible. I am the youngest in my family. This past weekend I ate breakfast with two of my sisters and my Mom. I sat in a car with them, sharing silly jokes. I walked with my sisters while one of them pushed my Mom in a wheelchair, our little group navigating through a maze of little shops. It was good times and yet each of us felt how much the years have done to each of us and for sure my Mom. Mom has no memory of being there with us. None. I am glad that we all shared the house that my husband and I bought. In not too long, most likely Mom will take her final rest. I am left wondering if she really knows who I am. I hug her and don't get the answering hug that I did when she was younger. Let it be! Such is the way of things.

@andriaperry I wonder what its like, losing your physical abilities and your memory? I can tell my own issues creeping in and that is plenty scary for me.

I'm sorry your mom has these issues, it's hardest on family rather than the patient. Deep down she does remember you she just can't show it right now.

You are welcome @sallypup It's a blessing for her but surely not for you or your sisters. It hurts us when our parents forget who we are.

@rebelann Thank you for your kind and wise words. She truly does not appear to have a clue on anything to do with the brother who passed away at age 43. Perhaps that is a blessing.

@rebelann Mom must have had attraction and love to my Dad otherwise I wouldn't be here!! And yet these days she has no idea who he is or was. Flaps my brain crazy if I think too much about it.

Thank you @caopaopao. My Mom did laugh a time or two. That sound was so good to hear.

@wolfgirl569 Yes, there's that and there's just age in general. My once strong sister looks ill; bags under her eyes, frailer than I'd like to notice. It was good that we got together.

@sallypup Is she the one that takes care of your Mom? That is very tiring thing to do.

@wolfgirl569 Yes, my sister took on the job of caring for Mom. We did it for a while but couldn't handle it plus we don't have resources close enough.

That was a bittersweet visit I know. I thought the house was rented?

@JamesHxstatic It is rented. And I am a pushy landlady. Nuff said? The folks were sweet and let my circus in plus the contractor came in to talk about converting the upstairs bedroom into a bathroom. Then later another person came over to talk about the stained glass window. I owe those folks- we did bring them butcher sausage so maybe they will live through our visit.

Are you getting excited for the day you will move into your home? Nice that you can spend some time with your mom whether she remembers or not, I see so many that are just forgotten, your mama is lucky.

@cintol You're right. How many garbage dumps and runs to the Goodwill? Not months time but paring down time.

Most of the old people start losing their memory. However, you have your sisters and a lovely husband with whom you can share your feelings. Enjoy with them.
