Do you have a green thumb?

My thumb is and always has been brown. We had an elderly neighbor who could throw a dead blade of grass in the yard and the next week, it would be a beautiful flowering bush. Not really, but almost. She did have a talent for growing things, though. I like house plants. Over the years, I would water them, feed them, I even sang to them. Maybe that was my mistake. Hmmmm...... I just never could get them to live. I even killed a snake plant. If you are familiar with those, you know they're pretty hard to kill. My husband does the outside work and has grown many flowers and a few trees over the years. His thumb is definitely greener than mine. But, you see the little green plant in the photo above? I have actually kept it alive for ten months!!! It was part of an arrangement a friend sent to me last October when I had shoulder surgery. The rest of it died, but this little fella refuses to give up! All I do is give it a little water when it wilts and put it near a window. The other day I did add a few coffee grounds (I heard that might help.) So far, so good. I wish I were that tenacious when it comes to overcoming obstacles in life. This little thing is still living and being pretty in the worst of circumstances. There's probably a moral here somewhere. What do you think?

I never give up and plant something every year. But, nothing ever really seems to grow around here. I do get a few flowers here and there, but that is about it. I planted tomatoes, strawberries and blueberries this year. The tomato plant grew big but because of the bad heat never fruited. The other plants never even came up. So, I would say no I do not have a green thumb.

@1creekgirl That is great that you have kept the plant alive for 10 months so far. I had a cactus once and I killed it. I am not a plant person at all.

@1creekgirl I am so so sorry. At least you kept it alive for 10 months.

I guess the moral would be: good lighting and only watering when needed would be it.

I like you have a brown thumb. Fortunately my hubby has a green thumb or we would be living in a brown world.
