Kerala - with its coastal areas, backwaters and some beautiful mountains is also called as God's own country. However this state has been reeling under unprecedented floods. Many lives have been lost- both humans and animals. More than that the loss to property, crops, livelihood and displacement of people has been massive. Some estimates say 800 Crore rupees of damage and 6 to 8 lakh people displaced. Rescue teams, Army, Navy and Airforce have been deployed in large numbers and doing an admirable job of rescue and evacuation. Some tales of bravery and selflessness have also come out. Some fishermen have helped rescue many people in spite of heavy rains, flooded places and bad weather. I and other people have contributed a little amount as per our capacity to certain relief funds. But much more is needed to tackle the unprecedented situation.

I am sorry this is happening in India... It is admirable that so many people risk themselves and/or donate money to help the people there. In a side note: I came to your profile to find something to comment on... Unfortunately, I am not interested in ball games of any type, so found only this discussion I could respond on... It is only my luck that the discussion was not a happy one. I am so sorry.

@LadyDuck this year, floods have caused a lot of damage in Assam and other places. However Kerala has been the worst affected. It has received such heavy rainfall after 87 years and over a terrible magnitude.

Situation is getting better but will take time to get back the normal life. Water is contaminated in Well so drinking water become scarce. Water receded in many places with heavy amount of Mud in those places. Cleaning that part is really a difficult jobs. Kerala is getting support and assistance from every nook and corner which is admirable. The service of army wings is also commendable. Fishermen were also greatly helped as they were familiar with place. This is a great lesson for people who are forgetting simple things and misuse the resource of earth. River banks belongs to rivers, it should be used for agriculture farming, not for making apartments, hotels, factories etc. According to experts, this kind of floods will happen every place of the country within a wide gap of time (once in 50 years or 100 years). Nature knows what is the best for people and earth.

An admirable step from UAE government :
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan added that the United Arab Emirates has pledged $100 million for relief work and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

@Sreekala Yes we take mother nature for granted. Other states and cities in India too are under danger of such disasters in the future.
