A late arrival - merry Christmas

Today I found two envelopes on my desk at work. One was confirmation of my latest expense claim and the other was a Christmas card from the team in Germany. The post mark said it was sent on the 20th of December - so 8 months and 1 day ago. I'm not sure whether to consider it's 8 months late or to look upon it as 4 months early for the next Christmas. Either way I'd love to know where it's been hiding all this time.

If the post mark says it was sent on the 20th of August it is one year and one day today... may be it was sent the 20th of December?

@boiboing It took a very long time to come. I thought that this is something that only happens in Italy.

@LadyDuck I've been to Greek islands where the locals say the postman only collects once the post box is full.

That's definitely a late arrival. I thought mail moved faster than that.

I would really like to know where it's been hiding and what it's been doing.

Gave me some opportunities to tease my German colleagues about the legendary 'ruthless efficiency' of their people.

Somebody probably forgot to make sure you received it. I imagine it's been cosy in the mail room somewhere!

It's such a long time that it must have gone to somebody else who just put it in a drawer and didn't look. My colleague leaves at the end of the month and I suspect he might have been turning out his filing boxes.

When I rechecked my expense claim paperwork, that was ALSO from last December. I'm wondering if they've been sat on the wrong person's desk ever since.
