Another day, another drama at the DMV

I gathered all my documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, social security card, old driver's license, and an old bill proving I live at my address), drove once again for the third time to the DMV, hoping that please God, I would be allowed to get a new license. Of course it didn't happen. The guy said my marriage certificate wasn't legal and I would have to get an official one from the court house where we got married. I told him we got married in Hawaii! By this time I was getting so aggravated. He was rude several other times. I finally said, "Forget your gold star license. Just give me the old kind." I was so mad, I could'a spit. I wanted to add, "If I have to board an airplane, I'll have several forms of ID. And I guess that tour of a nuclear power plant is off my list." Not once did he ever say, "I'm sorry you've had to make so many trips here. I wish I could be of more help." Nothing. Other than being rude. I finally got a temporary card until the so-called real one arrives. Before I left, I said to him, "I understand you have to do everything in a legal way. But you could have at least been a little nicer about it." He started stammering something and I said, "You've had an attitude since the minute I walked in." Then I walked out. I thought about reporting him, but no one hardly ever gets fired or even in trouble around here if you're a government employee. I should have told him, "Since I'm a tax payer, that technically makes me your boss. You're fired." Edit: Well, I showed 'em. I just ordered a copy of our marriage certificate on line from the courthouse in Honolulu, Hawaii. Can't wait to wave that in front of that grumpy license examiner.

@1creekgirl Wow that's a lot of items just to prove that"s you. It seems like your old license would be enough.

It's called a gold star license and is supposed to be more easily accepted if you need to board a plane, visit a military base, or go to a nuclear power plant.

Oh dear so sorry you had to go through that Vicki. I could also tell you absolute horror stories when I had to deal with a particular DMV which I will not mention here. They treated me like I was dirt. And yes they get away with it.

Needing a birth cert. was a new one for me when we moved to Oregon. I had never seen mine so that was a first for me. I send to state of Washington where I was born and got it.

That's insane. Your marriage certificate isn't legal? You need to make an official complaint. Next they will demand a witness to your birth.

Shhh, maybe they haven't thought of that yet. Have my husband and I been living in sin these 52 years?
