Moving On Up.

Which would you rather have - beauty or brains? . It is true that some people do move up the ladder of success faster when there is beauty of face and form , but if brainpower is limited, such persons will not remain at the top for very long.
A friend once confided to me that her looks had helped open many doors for her. And as I watched her moving on up I knew that it wasn't looks alone - she had brains to go with it.
Of course it depends on the kind of job or career. Some careers can be successful with beauty and very little brains. while with others - beauty is not really an asset. So, what will you settle for - beauty, brains or a bit of both? Would you give someone preferential treatment because of his or her looks? Have you ever been given preferential treatment because of your looks?

I would never want to be a Marilyn Monroe who was credited to have little brain (lol)

@allknowing Like I mentioned in another comment - beauty can also cause a lot of trouble and distress.

Beauty can open the door and brains will keep one moving forward. Would I buy a beautiful car with a poor engine?

@Kandae11 The only time I would buy a beautiful car with a poor engine would be if I only wanted to display it. Think about that for a second.
Also, in some areas brains are not important but beauty is. Right?

@1hopefulman Yes - for display. There are many instances where a thing of beauty is for display only. Like for example, there are some filthy rich men who actually prefer a wife with no brains. Beauty is the main thing.

My best friend from high school and I always believed we had the perfect looks to become successful in radio. Neither of us pursued that career, though the Dean of the School of Journalism at the college I attended after the Army did try to talk me into changing my major after he heard me give a presentation. I might have done it, too, if I hadn't been in my last semester and about to graduate.
If I had to chose, I think I'd rather have brains.

@DWDavis. In radio the voice is of more importance than the looks - one is hidden behind the mike. Now with television looks would be very important. Years ago I remember an extremely handsome television newscaster on our local station. He was good to look at but was no good at reading the news. I guess there were complaints because he was removed to another area of television.

No one ever gave me preferential treatment due to my looks, unless that is the only criteria used to cast extras. Then they are seeking a certain "look," I guess.

A bit of both I think but then again it should not really matter.

Yes I know its something that we should not take to heart.
Actually Marilyn Monroe was supposed to be very intelligent.
Sharon Stone is very beautiful and very intelligent and what the heck there are so many women like that.

I wouldn't give anyone preferential treatment because of their looks but I know many people do. I've never had any special treatment. I know one lady who is, and I shouldn't say it but, she is not a beauty and she's at the top of her company. It must be her brains because it isn't for beauty.

Oh, that's very nice topic to touch. yes I have seen many times when I really go well dressed to the market, the dealer treats very nicely, maybe thinking that I am having strong finances but when I am in my casual dress or say normal dress like simple ones they treat like little bit lesser than the other customers. I don't think it's good at all but it happens, really bad.
but personally I would prefer brains more than the beauty.
the beauty is required too because LORD has made us beautiful and we like to see the beauty too,so I try to make up myself and well dressed but more than that I prefer brains.
100% I need brains and then the beauty comes, say 80%..though I try 100%

Brains of course!! I need it to even carry my beauty with grace and dignity. I have seen beauties making a mock of themselves in lack of common sense. And Beauty always lies in eye of beholder and it is a perception that differs with person to person.
