Too COLD for Comfort

There we were again in another frigid restaurant trying to enjoy our meal. Don't get me wrong I love A/C and when the weather is hot and humid I know nothing beats Air Conditioning.
But when you go out to eat in August to a restaurant- you shouldn't have to bring sweaters so you will be comfortable!
This happened a few nights ago and it is crazy how COLD they keep most restaurants in the summertime! You should still be able to sense the warm summer temps as you eat your meal.
You shouldn't shiver and feel uncomfortable. The air should be on but it should be adjusted for comfort! I knew this is often the case so I brought my sweater just in case because this happened to us before. And this time my husband even brought his. And yep it was so cold I had to wear it throughout our dinner. I complained a little to the waitress but they really can't do much- she said she'd ask and in the end she got it adjusted a little.
It's hard to enjoy your meal when you're freezing to death! LOL! Maybe next time I'll wear a scarf, mitts and a wool hat to give them the message.
And btw this happens in most restaurants all summer long. Next time I will make sure we sit out in the patio with the flies. haha! That's why so many people do it! At least it feels like summer!

I totally agree with you. I can never enjoy a meal when it's freezing cold. There's this favorite restaurant of ours that we frequently go to to have our lamb chops. Their a/c would always be at the lowest temperature and we would always tell them to turn it down.

@LadyDuck Especially when you consider that most of us hate it! I try to complain to each new place so they know. It's awful though. You'd think they would want to save on energy too.

It makes a big difference in enjoying your meal when you're comfortable. I don't understand it. Very bad here in Canada and in the U.S.

ALL the shopping malls, stores and restaurants are like that here as well.

@MarymargII maybe they've had plenty of complaints through the years. Also, everyone is different and if it was more moderate and then the weather turned one way or the other it could take longer to adjust.

I don't know why it's so overdone? You'd think they would love to save a little energy!

@MarshaMusselman You have a good point- people would complain no matter what---although I would think most would hate it too, too cold.

Living in a hot and temperate country A/C is very much welcome and appreciated by many in my place. Almost all establishments have that installed because temperature outside is either warm to very soaking hot that is why people tend to take shelter from the heat from establishments that have their A/C on.

@MarymargII I understand your situation being in a cold place needs to have a little warm nook to make it comfortable and tolerable.

Oh I would too- and love it if I was in a very hot country--but they got it set way too high for eating comfortably in restaurants.

I feel like all businesses that use AC seem to blast it on! We bring jackets with us to all restaurants - Hubby can take "cold" but the kids and I can't. And I really hate being near a AC vent when eating. It's a great way to get headaches .

@LadyDuck A few of the very fine individual restaurants are not bad but any Franchise restaurants are usually so cold. We have sat out in the patio at times- but in August the flies and bees are bad.

I know - I don't know why they all do this? WE'll have to protest en masse and maybe they will take notice! lol!

I don't like it when the A/C is on high either. It feels good when you first walk in, but a few minutes later you are freezing.

It sounds pretty miserable. I have had that happen in movie theaters before. It is kind of hard to enjoy a movie when you are wearing shorts and a T shirt and it is 65 degrees in the theater!

I've always been cold in the summer months because of the air conditioning in most stores and restaurants. Every church is too cold for me. It's rare I don't have one of my sweaters when I leave the house.

You're so right Marsha- there are a few stores that almost do the opposite- and I'm stifled in the humidity- but 85% I'm sure have that AC cranked up and it's freezing. Worse if you're trying to enjoy a meal out.

I really don't like going to restaurants or stores in summer because the A/C is so cold. It's bad enough when walking the frozen aisle in the store, but when you add the A/C to it, it's downright freezing in there and I feel like I should wear my winter jacket to the store. One restaurant seems to have it at a decent level, and that's Perkins where I was this past week.

I don't mind the A/C but not that cold- I don't know why those restaurants do that?

I also face the same issue in our office. There's a person who is our superior always turn on the AC at a high cooling temperature. He is not ready to compromise even if we feel chilling cold. Nowadays, I am bringing shawl with me.

That is so true the businesses all have the AC on to high.
