I am really depressed

This has been a bad month for us. My next door neighbor on one side had fallen last week and her daughter and her husband were away on vacation. My husband happened to look out the window and saw the rescue squad there. Of course I went right over there. She was taken to the hospital and being her daughter was away, that left me to be the one to take care of her 3 cats. Luckily they never go outside. My neighbor on the other side was the lady I wrote about awhile ago that fell while walking her dog over a month ago. Her son came down to Florida from New Jersey and when she finally got out of rehab her son stayed for 2 months. She is my adopted mom as my mom is long gone. Her son said he had to go back to New Jersey as he has a big farm and he knows she was alright and she kept telling him to go home to take care of things. He got everything packed and he cleaned out her whole house to make sure it was safe for her. He was loading up the car and something told him she didn't want him to go and they both decided she would go with him. The house he was going back to was the one he was raised in and still his moms. They left yesterday very early and I am missing her already. I do not know if she will ever come back as it is a 24 hour drive and she is 90 years old. A very spunky 90 year old lady!!! Now we sit here between two houses without my good friends. I don't know when the first one will ever get out of the rehab as she had a knee replacement a couple of months ago.

Do you live in a 55 plus community? We do when we are in Florida and we have an elderly gentleman on one side of us and the other is a rental. Our neighborhood has more older people than many of the other neighborhoods in our resort.

@ramapo17 Yes I did know about your husband, we have my husband's brother and his wife and our three nieces and their families in other parts of Ocala. We do meet some of our neighbors at the pool but we are not here enough to b really make friends.

Yes, I am in a 55+ community in Melbourne. It is very nice and I also have a niece and her husband 45 minutes from us in Sebastian so I am not really alone, plus I have my husband to.

@compslick Thank you. I know things will get better and I am very grateful that I can be here for both of them if they need me.

I intend to and of course with these cell phones I can call them all the time. I left all my friends when we moved here from the northeast and that was a bummer. I will get over it and have to force myself to find some new friends.

I am sorry you don't have your neighbors there for you now, it is scary when the elderly are left alone. I hope they get out of rehab soon

@cintol Isn't it funny how we cannot wait to grow up and then when we reach it we wonder why we thought this way.

@YrNemo She didn't do the driving, her son did. She does drive though and would always drive my other neighbor and myself to our horticulture class every week, we both offered to drive and she liked to do it. I think she is trying to hang onto everything she can, while she can.

It is difficult when you lose two friends at once. Making new ones is not easy either. At least there is the telephone. I'm sure they would appreciate a call from you.

She can't wait to come back home but she probably not be able to walk around. The daughter went out and bought a ramp so they can bring the wheel chair in and out when needed.

@ramapo17 I think that aging we know more and more people with health problems, especially if you live in a senior community.

The one in the hospital is now in rehab and that is supposed to be for awhile. She had a hip replacement the beginning of this year and now knee problems. She has so many things that are wrong with her.

@LadyDuck Luckily I do not know many people here. My neighbor on each side and that is it. If we go to the dances or parties I recognize some but don't socialize with any after we leave the party. The little lady next to me feels like family. She is 90 and I am 76 but I feel very close to her. I hope I will see her again but I do not think she will ever come back and live alone again.

I agree with you. I cannot see her coming back again. It is a 20 hour car trip or more, depending on traffic and weather. I am surprised her son drove right through from Florida to New Jersey in one day. We are also from New Jersey and whenever we go up to visit the family and friends we stay overnight in a hotel half way there.

You are right. I never wanted to leave Pennsylvania and New Jersey but my husbands health said he had to get out of the cold. I finally have these two friends and now they are both not here. There is plenty to do down here but I need some "ME" time with my friends.
