the lemons

My son arrived at 6:20pm. He pressed the doorbell twice. He informed me at 5:30 that he will buy lemons in the city so I expected him to come home late. When he took my right hand to receive my blessings, he spoke softly. I asked him why buy lemons and why does he speak soft Then I knew. He has no voice. He whispered that I make him a warm lemon drink. So I cut 2 lemons in half after I squeezed each of them with my palm pressing the fruit on the table. This will produce juice to the fruit. Then the practice that we do from our late mother's action when any of us have no voice: I let my son apply a little of a vaporizing ointment in his throat and tie his neck loosely with a handkerchief. He has no fever so antibiotics are out for him. He did a graded recitation to his students this day; if he still has no voice tomorrow, I don't know what he should let his students do as activities.

@ridingbet not the powdered salabat that's sold in bottles. i just peel fresh ginger we have in the kitchen, slice them thinly then dunk in a mug of hot water. when it cools a bit, i drink it. then add hot water again to the ginger. i think you can add honey, too.

The salabat? I wanted to do that but my son hasn't tasted it yet. If he still has no voice this afternoon I will make him a cup of that drink

He should sip honey instead of lemon and keep the throat hydrated.

@ridingbet Lemon is surely good to kill germs, but the honey would be better for the voice.

@LadyDuck he took 2 tablespoonful of honey after breakfast. then i asked him to gurgle with Hexetidine, and have lozenges. it should control the itchiness of his throat.

Lemons are good. I made ginger tea with calamansi juice today for my sore throat. I am having coughs from the hot weather and when I am in the bedroom, it's cold because of aircon.

@ridingbet yes, we do. My cousin made Salabat with calamansi and honey for me this morning. It helps a lot with my sore throat. Salabat powder from the supermarket is not good. It has more sugar than ginger.

@Mavic123456 i believe a person without tonsils is more susceptible to respiratory illnesses because there are no more tonsils to filter whatever enters into our respiratory system. hasn't your voice changed with tonsillectomy?
