oatmeal, blueberry and raisins in a soup mug

mother wanted oatmeal for dinner instead of rice. it came out too thick, so instead of adding powdered milk, i suggested yogurt milk. we had bought assorted flavors of dutchmill yogurt milk last week or so. that time, i told her she can use 1 small box if she wants corn flakes for breakfast, instead of the usual non-fat fresh milk. not only is it just the right serving size for one bowl of cereal (90ml), she can enjoy different flavors for a change. i transfered the oatmeal into a soup mug (similar to the picture attached, though with a smaller base). i poured the blueberry-flavored yogurt milk, sprinkled raisins then stirred well. she liked it and ate it all. we also use the soup mug when we have pancit (stir-fried noodles), soup or pasta for dinner. this way, she can raise it with one hand, forking or spooning with the other while sitting back and watching her favorite tv programs in the sala (living room). we do this once or twice a week. usually it's rice at the dining table. what do you eat when you want a light dinner? do you use soup mugs, too?

No we do not use soup mugs, we use bowls for soups. We usually have fish for dinner, we eat very little rice.

because it's not really your staple food. she actually prefers fish over pork and chicken, but lately it's been trial and error. sometimes she likes, sometimes she doesn't like what we buy.

when i lived in a boarding house, sometimes i would have corn flakes and milk for dinner. if we add fruit to oatmeal, it's usually banana since it's cheap and available year-round.

@hereandthere Yes, I fast from supper to supper. I eat nothing and I drink nothing. I've read a lot about this. It is called Intermittent Dry Fasting. I am trying it out to see if it is the best way to eat for me.

@YrNemo i've had coffee and cake for breakfast. i can do ice cream, too, but after the cake and coffee! i know simplyd/rebelwoman does something similar at work. she puts her coffee in the freezer before lunch so it's supercold when she drinks it later.

If it has to be a light meal, I prefer tomato soup and green salad.

I still would have our usual big plate, but with only a small amount of rice and viand. Then, I will drink lemonade with honey. Or sometimes I skip dinner already when my snacks would be at 5:00.

I don't use soup mugs much but you've made me realise that they can be useful for other foods. For light meals I often have instant noodles.

Oatmeal is very healthy. That was a good choice with the yogurt milk.

My kids sometimes use a cup or mug for their froot loops and corn flakes. I like to put a little condensed milk into my oatmeal. I grew up having it that way. If condensed milk isn't available, I substitute with honey and powdered milk. I also add raisins and bananas for more fiber goodness. As for light dinners, we sometimes make pasta or soup with bread.

we have spaghetti, pancit canton, soup with bread sometimes for dinner. i prefer evaporated milk in oatmeal or champorado, sometimes milo or powdered milk. even though i've always had a sweet tooth, i never liked condensed milk. i also add raisins. sometimes banana.

I am actually looking for the right soup mugs - well, soup crocks with handles anyway - for French onion soup - I haven't found ones to my liking yet. Normally we have soup in bowls - maybe Japanese ones if we are eating Japanese noodle soups.

We usually just do salads when we want something light to eat. I don't have soup mugs, they could come in handy when the kids want tomato soup and grilled cheese. Your oatmeal sounds good too, never heard of yogurt milk before.
