Work Rant.....When Is it Time to Look for Another Job???

When do you know it's your last straw? When do you realize that this isn't working out for you? To generalize. I work in insurance field. My department serves others. We have time sensative material we need to provide to other departments to serve customer needs (usually 24 hour turn around). Well......systems were down, we couldn't make our timeline so I offered to come back to work after the end of my day to finish a product. Other shift has minimal training so would not know how to handle what needs to be done. We completed the task, got everyone what they needed and even did a little training for new staff on what we need to do if this happens again. AAARRRGH....Now the frustrating part. Am stuck between two managers in a pissing contest. Each one wants the other to fail even if it's at the expense of not providing what our customers need. I was verbally told I was Wrong for coming back into work to get what our customers needed. Really? We don't worry about other people who aren't training right. Really? We only worry about our own shift work. Really? I thought we were all in this together, you know like what they call a team? THOUGHT we were all in the same department sharing like goals. WHO AM I to come back into work and make this happen. So when is it enough? When is the righting so clear on the wall that it's all going down hill from here. Seriously, it's like working with toddlers.

Hi, kprofgames. I’m sorry to gear that you’re going through that. But let me remind you, you’re not the only one in that position, so I hope you don’t feel alone in this. I actually was on the same boat months ago. I felt like quitting for a looooot of reasons. A boss with no vision, management promoting the wrong people, no opportunities for growth for me and my team, redundant everyday work where I feel stagnant and dumb because I’m not learning anything new, and the many opportunities that looks a lot better than I have now. These amongst other things made me update my resume and do a couple of interviews with different companies. And this is not the first time this happened to me, mind you. Well I didn’t resign. I’m still with the same company and the same program. And the reasons are more compellig than the ones I previously mentioned. I have a team who relies on me and woulld really be affected when I leave. They said that if I leave, they would as well. And I can’t risk that nor compromise leaving them in a place where they don’t feel secured. You see, these people have become my family. And I can only leave them when I feel that they will be in good hands. One huge reason as well is that this job makes me financially stable, and it would really hurt my finances if I suddenly leave. Leaving also means that I will have to go through the rigorous application process with other companies, not to mention the level of adjustment that I will need to make when I start working with new people in a new environment. In my mind I almost always say, at least here, I know who I’m up against and how to get around them. There’s also this thing about our schedule that I really like. In the nature of our industry, getting a stable shift with weekends off is kind of a rarity. So that’s a bonus as well. I can tell you a lot of other reasons why we should stay or not, but it totally depends on your tolerance. I’m kind of a hard-headed, pain tolerant person so yeah, haha! But what I’m sure of is that, things change. They’re not going to be your managers forever. You’re bot going to be in your position forever either. Even when it seems really hopeless at times, you’ll see that there will be a surprising shift sooner or later. The only thing that matters while you patiently wait is that you love what you’re doing. If everything around you is so blurry, just focus on the job at hand. :)

You kind of said it all of my thinking here. People rely on me to make things right. My manager is harder on me, pushes me more because knows will get results. I help my team mates, put in the extra hours. I looked . back through my pay stubs and found 5 weeks were I didn't put in over-time....the entire years. I cross train, work with others and go the extra mile. Yes others who care about our mission would suffer. It's a catch 22 really. I have a big heart. I take responsibility. Bad weather (snow storms) sometimes I am the only one who can make it into work and then stay latter because other shift can't make it in. Round and round we go and still can't make anyone happy.
