Marching Geese

As we came home from therapy, I heard cars honking and looked down the highway. Cars were backed up and I thought it must have been an accident, but as I moved on over where I could see, a flock of geese came marching down in the middle of the highway. Cars were passing in the right and left lanes. It didn't seem to bother the geese at all. They marched on without paying any attention to the cars honking. We were able to go around the back of Chick Fillet and avoid the action. Wish I'd had my camera. Anyway, we are at home safe and sound. I don't know what happened to the geese. I hope they flew away safely.

Sol_cee does that mean you stop traffic whenever you go out?

There's a good lesson in this-thank you! No matter what happens everywhere around us our focus should be kept on God-ignoring the circumstances as the geese ignored the commotion around them.

They certainly ignored everything around them. I was surprised that none of them were run over.

I find them cute when they do that. I often see them in the countryside and they would innocently cross the roads like they are leisurely enjoying their walk there.

That's what these were doing. Just strolling down the middle of the highway.

I think they can honk as much as they like, I've never heard differently. They were honking trying to get the geese out of the road, but these geese weren't interested.

They flew in from somewhere but there's a lake they could have landed on. Strange they came to a highway.

@LadyDuck It could have been. Maybe the leader fell ill and dropped out, and the others didn't know what to do.

I hope so too! What an odd place for them to march.

I can't imagine what made them come to the highway. At the next apartment complex there's a lake that would have been the perfect place.

Seems as if the geese were on a mission and a little traffic wasn't going to deter them hope they made it safely to their destination

I haven't seen geese do that before, but I see ducks do that all the time. They just waddle down the middle of the road (or across the road) like they don't have a care in the world.

@RubyHawk It's funny how some animals in the wild are very jittery and afraid of humans, yet others could care less about our presence and just go about their daily lives as if we didn't even exist.

I suppose they don't have a care in the world. There's a lake not far away where geese congregate so very likely they were just out taking a walk. When we drive by the lake there are always geese swimming and on the grounds.

@moffittjc I know, a squirrel or rabbit will take off like a shot if they see or hear anyone near them. One of my sisters lives on a farm and wild deer and wild turkeys come up in her yard. She says deer walk down the hill with her to the mail box.She also had a skunk in her yard recently. She made a picture and sent it to me to see if I knew what it was. I told her not to go near it if she didn't want to get a stink bomb.

Ha ha! We have geese do the same thing in our community. They land in the middle of the road and walk down it, as though it had been built solely for them! LOL

@RubyHawk - That is what we have seen here, too. One time, the road was full of geese and a pick-up truck was trying to drive down the street. The driver kept honking and, eventually, the geese parted so he could get through, but they certainly took their time! LOL

@DeborahDiane Geese don't scare easily. But it's odd to see them marching down the road so unconcerned about their safety. All the honking didn't bother these geese one bit.

@RubyHawk Would love to see that! I saw some cars in front of mine a few days ago, tried to avoid some pigeons on the road. My daughter pointed out, 'mom, those pigeons are stupid or what! Look at the way they reluctantly leave the busy road!'

That must have been quite a sight. Perhaps the geese thought the cars were also some kind of odd huge birds because like geese they were honking
