My Gallbladder Removal Surgery part 2

Perth, Australia
August 27, 2018 3:30am CST
This is a continuation from my previous post. So around 6pm my family had already gone. I was in worried mode again because a nurse and doctor were a bit concerned with my heart rate. They said that for the past few hours, my heart rate was getting higher. (highest was in the 120's ) So they thought maybe it was lack of fluids. Though, something was telling me it wasn't that. Only because I was drinking so much water throughout the day due to my throat being so dry. And I was going to the bathroom often. But a IV drip was hooked into me for fluids anyway. At some point, the nurse who was with me just after surgery was talking to me about my heart rate and I told her that it could be anxiety playing a role here. My normal heart rate is always fine but being there could have made me anxious. We also put it together that my heart rate started going up during the time I was told I was going to have an injection. She was even thinking it was anxiety and not lack of fluids. Anyway, while we were talking, we noticed my heart rate dropping. And she even said that she didn't like how the nurse and doctor was going on about my heart rate ( Not in a mean way. Just cause she could see it was making me worry ) and she personally connected it to anxiety also. The way she was explaining things to me and telling me I was fine, the more my heart rate was becoming normal. We had a little giggle to ourselves about it and I was feeling better. Later on that night I had the injection. I am ok with needles, it's the pumping things into me that I'm a bit weird with. Was explained to me that it was a blood thinner so I don't have any blood clots. The injection went into my stomach. My nurse and another nurse supported me through that. Didn't hurt but was just nice of them to be there. I got told by my nurse that I was her favourite patient because I did what I was told and wasn't like how other patients can be. I ate a bit of dinner. Not much cause I just wasn't hungry but ate enough to have tablets. Certain tablets were given to me every few hours. I got a new nurse for the night. He was nice too. He came in at midnight, 2am, 5am and then 7am and every time he was amazed I was still awake. I was a bit nervous to sleep. Because I didn't understand why my breathing was weird during surgery ( I get it now ) I was worried if I slept again, I'd have issues breathing so I just didn't sleep even though I was exhausted. At 5am when he checked my oxygen and heart rate, it was perfect. Heart rate was back in the 90's. Went home a bit later. They were all so lovely and I'm grateful that I was around those people during my first operation. I am home now. I am fine. No pain but just a bit tender in a few areas. I have been a bit nauseous every day but it lasts for about 20 minutes. I'm just tired more than anything. I managed to sleep Saturday night. So all is well. **Photo is me in hospital** Was exhausted.

I was wondering whether the breathing problem is also due to blood loss? Though it couldn't have been much in this surgery, still with the number of times you go for blood tests and maybe not having enough blood in the first place could be the reason besides anaesthesia side effects and of course, anxiety somewhere.

@Daljinder I'm not sure. But yeah like you said, wasn't really the type of surgery to lose much blood. I will speak about it all with my doctor. Been quite ok this morning which is good. Hoping it can just stay that way and it was all just a short phase.

My heart always races when I am worried, the nurse was right saying that the doctor and the other nurse were stressing you talking about your heart rate. Well, from now on you have no more to worry about the horrible pain of gallbladder stones.

@LadyDuck I'm sorry you deal with the heart racing thing too. It can be quite a nuisance. It was a weird cycle while I was there. Worried about something then my heart beats too fast which makes me worried more which makes my heart beat faster again. It hasn't hit me fully yet that I won't be having anymore gallbladder attacks ever again! I am glad though that I won't be dealing with them ever again!

@VivaLaDani13 When I am stressed or worried I immediately feel that my heart start to race and I know that I have to sit down and try to calm down. It's good to know that you will no more experience such big pain.

@LadyDuck May I ask what you do exactly while trying to calm down? Like do you try to get your mind off it? Do slow breathing? Hope it's ok to ask. Just thought I'd try to learn some tips on how to deal with it. I can feel my heart beating too. It's weird. I also feel my pulse on the left side of my neck beating away when it happens.

It's good to hear that you are now feeling better. I was diagnosed with gallstones a year ago. I am glad I did not have to undergo surgery.

@Iam_jauntyjen I am glad you didn't have to either. I was hoping I could get rid of mine naturally but too late now. One of the stones was too big anyway.

What a relief after a surgery! Glad that you are okay now. I recall my thyroid and cataract surgeries; we become anxious till they are behind us - siva

Anxiety and rapid heart rates are common. I actually went to the ER over this! Glad it was nothing more serious. Must be relieved to finally be out of the constant pain!

@dgobucks226 Luckily I haven't been in much pain at all. Only once I had a bit of a sore belly button due to the stitches but it didn't last long at all. But I am having some back pain but not sure if this is surgery related or because I've been sleeping on just my back every night of the week. Not my favourite position. Sorry to hear of you going to the ER due to a rapid heart rate. Hope it hasn't happened again to you.

@VivaLaDani13 No rapid heart rates thank goodness. I would agree you're back pain probably is related to how you have been positioned. Wishing you the best for a complete recovery and healthy future

@jaboUK Thank you. Yep things are doing really good thank you kindly. I have been a little bit sick here and there though lately. But I'm sure it's nothing related to that.

All the best to you and a speedy recovery! I also remember great tiredness after surgeries. I always took several books to hospital with me in order not to get bored. But I didn't open a single one. I just wanted to rest.

@MALUSE I brought a book and a notepad in case I wanted to write but I didn't end up doing any of that either. Mainly cause I was tired but also because that IV drip thingy was in my hand making it uncomfortable to do much. Thank you for your comment! So far, so good. Just tired more than anything.
