Some people want everything for free

I was quit disappointed on reading a community page on social media here in the city. Some people were complaining about the 15 pesos being charged to enter the provincial coliseum and use the ovals to walk, jog or run. Others though were quite rational and said that we need to pay for maintenance of the facility while a few also said that if you did not want to pay, then you can go to the boulevard where it's free or even at the freedom park. I also commented that the increase in payment from 10 pesos to 15 was based a Provincial Ordinance passed by the Provincial Board sometime last year setting taxes and fees in all government offices in the province. There were a few who also said that 15 is much cheaper than going to the gym and paying 100. Some said that it's such a small amount compared to 10 sticks of cigarettes at 5 pesos each which some spend to smoke. It's just so disappointing to be hearing people rant about paying and who just want to have everything for free.

We have a park in DC which used to collect entrance fees but people complained about it. Eventually the entrance fee was abolished and people could come and go as they pleased. Now the park is in a not so good condition with broken benches, unkempt grassy lawns and dirty surroundings.

So, that's the consequence, right? I think nothing is free in the world now. Even the water we drink, we pay for it. Have to log out for now, Madam Sol :) Am running off to a TWG meeting.

Oh well I think that is a fact since many citizens are saying that they already are paying their taxes already and these facilities should cover what they paid for it. Although I think it is just right to regulate it by imposing an entrance fee to somehow control the flow of people coming in and also for the immediate maintenance of the facility. If that was just a 5 pesos increase they can definitely afford it else they enjoy other public places to go to.

The choices are theirs. The boulevard which is free or even the freedom park. Or they can just walk or jodg on the side of the road and inhale all the car emissions or take the rish of being run over or sideswiped by careless drivers, especially youngsters who ride their motorcycles like daredevils :) The fee used to be 10 but was increased because of a provincial ordinance for a uniform fees and charges of various services and use of facilities like the ovals.

@sunrisefan I guess that is what the entrance fee is for. You are paying for your safety while jogging.

When people have been using something for free or a very small amount, they often resent being asked to pay more. But, as you say, these things all need maintenance.

It's good to know that you have this coliseum. You are right, some are good at complaining with minimal amount where they can afford to pay on things higher than that without so much value. If it's justifiable, then it's OK. Let them be.

It just irritates me to hear people complain for such a small amount. BTW, the tracks on our ovals are rubberized and cost the government quite a lot to install I believe.

@sunrisefan I think it does not hurt for that little amount. If you can use the area without an hourly limit, then it's very fair.

@ZedSmart Yes, there's no time limit though they open at 4AM, close at 8AM and open again at 4PM to 8PM. I even don't mind having paid at times but as soon as I step into the ovals, it showers so I just go home. The amount has been paid and the watcher already tears the ticket. Have to log out for now to go to a meeting :) Thanks for your thoughts on this :)

I feel that minimum fee to see a monument/tourist place should be levied and it is in order.

@dpk262006 Yes, you are right. There are always two sides in an issue, just like coins as you say; and each side should consider the position of the other. The trouble with some people in this world is that they are always right or they are free to do or say anything without considering if it hurts or puts others in disadvantage.

Is there like a monthly or yearly pass? The beach I go to generally charge $10 to $15 depending on the day/time/holiday. I used to buy parking pass annually for $200. It was totally worth it. :) Wonder if people would go more often if there was a monthly or yearly pass.

@sunrisefan Oh yes, I guess because I don't have rainy weather here and if so its just a couple days out of the entire year. Plus I live in a state where it is the beach year-around for us. Also you can go hiking here so its a two in one (beach + hiking parking), it beats going in circles finding free street parking. I paid for three years but not now since we have a gym membership and that is $55 monthly and I get to bring 2 guests with me at all times (they have to be with me) time works out so my fiancé & my mom goes. My dad has a cheaper membership but its only for him and he can go at any location. My pass cannot go for any location. just a specify one.

No, they don't issue a monthly or yearly pass. I guess that won't be attractive because people usually come to jog or walk when they have the free time or it does not rain. As for me and my wife, we walk 4 times a week and less than that or none at all when it rains so it would be disadvantageous to pay for a monthly or a yearly pass. I'm sure the others would think like this too.

@infatuatedbby You're lucky in your state but without rain, is it not too hot too? I just leared a few days ago from a contestant on TV that there's a province up north in our country where it's sunny the whole day and never fails to have rain at night. It must be nice for the people living there to sleep soundly at night with the rain cooling the surroundings :)

How inconsiderate those people who rants about the minimal fee. If they don't want to pay then, they go to gyms. Let's see if they can afford the fee.

P10 increased to P15? Doesn't sound so bad to me. I also agree with all the things mentioned in support of this increase.

Yes, it's not that bad considering the amount to maintain the facilities and pay the salaries of guards, janitors and watcher plus the power cost. Besides, the P10 has been the rate for quite a number of years.

if they used to be free then they start charging 15, i'd understand the brouhaha, but i would still pay because as you said in the comments, the track is rubberized, the staff/cleaners have to be compensated for their work, plus the supplies they need/use, and also to be safe from vehicles. but a raise from 10 to 15? sheesh! people don't even think twice about the 5, 10, 20 pesos they waste here and there.

For a beautiful place to be used, it is necessary to charge what is needed for the upkeep and maintenance. If they don't want to pay, they should use the streets and stop complaining. Our town provides an area for picnics, bike riding, jogging, and walking. It comes out of our taxes and is open to the public.

If that is the city ordinance they should oblige. I know that the province board has a plan where to allocate the collected fees.

Those people have low IQ,LOL. They are so illogical and they are only thinking about their own benefits. Who shall carry the burden of the maintenance fees? yes, they can use the boulevard, the Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
