3D printing vs. Lego blocks - the future of construction world

I am completely for Lego blocks. It is not as if I have not grown up. I am almost 60 years old with my hair greying way too much. But to me Lego blocks make more sense because they allow us to change the design at a future date, sell or gift the excess Legos at a future date. They are reusable. And they can be made with nature friendly materials, which can include fire retardants and some of the waste made completely odorless, especially plastics. They can be stuffed with insulation materials and still offer employment to many as not everybody is capable of climbing for higher roof levels. They can also be used to make floors! I was reading a friend's post on Tornadoes. Of course legos can also fly but I doubt it very much because there are many points at which different level of pressure needs to be applied for lifting or breaking them. Now if only they come up with roofing technologies with solar panels integrated in them, we'd have a great way to reduce building costs and hopefully life and property loss during disasters. Lego like stacking can be done even with earthen Legos. Did I mention low maintenance? I guess not. Isn't that a fascinating invention? God bless the soul of that genius.

I was besotted by 3D printing for a while. Then I came across the Lego thing...and I am completely bowled over because of the flexibility and possibilities it offers. Amazing versatility...of course, we need to study a little bit of structural design to order right things. Imagine people coming to weddings and bringing the right type of Lego for gift or coupon that offers right type of Lego. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCzS2FZoB-I

Yes I am waiting for my bright yellow roof of lego blocks with solar power installed so I can cool my bright red house of lego blocks.

There is already a company that is manufacturing legos for internal walls, which can also be used for external walls. Only roofing is an issue so far, which I am surprised is posing an issue. Certain level of precision is needed I suppose, but it can be done. I love the idea of lifting large but light weight Legos and stacking them as per plan. :) And yes, existing abandoned house syndrome is silly.

@vandana7 What if someone undoes your house and steals your legos????

@jstory07 It ain't that easy. You see the undoing requires access to some central point of the home from where it began or where it ends. Even a single piece would be hard to take away. That said, I would prefer the grooves to be matching in a reverse way. That is there should be dips on the side that is facing upwards into which the lego projections fit in precisely. Rest of the lego can be filled with insulation foam or other insulating material. I think tongue in groove should be difficult for tornadoes to break easily. I don't know it needs to be experimented of course.
Some people have asked about the price of EverBlock, with the reaction… “I LOVE the concept, brilliant and FUN! But way out of my price range to build a wall partition in my apartment/home”. So let’s settle this misconception once and for all. There are no

I predict by 10 years or so, more people would take to it. It is really hard to maintain large homes.

I know the EverBlock system. Those are oversize plastic blocks that facilitates the construction of objects. They are stackable and come in nearly any shape, pattern, or size.
