A friend and I were talking this week about my slimming down. She mentioned and I tend to agree with her but never thought of it that I must train my body to stop now when I am full and not over eat. I thought about that when I was at a friend's yesterday. It was so nice to end the summer with a barbeque. We had chicken wings and long potatoes and green beans and salad. I ate 3 wings and potatoes and green beans and salad and then took some potatoes and could not eat two more because I was full and did not to want to eat anymore. I just wanted to drink. when I got home around 7 pm I just drank and took my medication and no more food. It felt so great to learn to be able to stop and not overeat. Have any of you learned to control your eating habits and stop when you know you had enough?

Eating in moderation is the key and not eating in the evening hours. That's all I do.

@Hannihar Do you eat at the morning ?
They say it's the most important meal of the day.

Yes mor I do. I also believe it is the most important meal of the day. I do eat on Yom Kippur and Tisha B'Av. I want to wish you a Shana Tova. Have a great year.

I don't eat in the evening anymore. I do not eat a lot now and sometimes all I want to do is drink something.

@Hannihar i think the main thing i have always heard for loosing or gaining either one is exercise like walking etc. to build muscle. which i can't hardly do much of either.

Bonnie, I am so sorry for the pains that come to you when you eat something you shouldn't. I understand that. There are things I cannot eat also. Thanks and I try my best.

@kepweng I think it is in our genes that we don't get that fat. Besides, I exercise 30 minutes a day, in the morning before I prepare for work. I also don't put sugar on my coffee in the morning. I also now eat just a small amount of rice, especially when it's dinner.
Though, I am taking medications for my fatty liver and cholesterol for 90 days. That I am sure, makes me thinner.

I do not believe in diets. I used to diet back when and lost the weight and gained it back. I discovered here in Israel Over Eaters Anonymous which is not a diet club. It teaches people to find the best way to eat healthier. In my case it was to give up things. In the summer time I am not hungry and just want to eat. Most of the winter I want to eat because it is so cold outside. The summer before this I hardly ate and drank more and it carried into winter and is still going on. My body tells me most of the time when it is time to stop eating. I only eat two meals a day and try not to snack in between. I do not eat at night and say no to things I do not want to eat or need to eat. I guess it is finding the best way for you. I started to do a little walking and some exercising at home.If you eat potato chips and dip maybe cut down or stop eating them and try not to snack in between meals. Start gradually with giving up things or find the right program for you. Diets do not work. Programs if you learn how to work them right do. I hope I helped you even somewhat.

I eat the main meal about two in the afternoon and a light tea and that´s it.
A few times I eat a bit more but not too much.
Green beans and a salad is really good for you.

A main meal and a light supper mainly although I can overstep the mark a few times but that is nothing doing that wisely.

It is also good to stop just before you've had enough because it usually takes more time for our brains to catch up to that fact when eating. Personally, I'm trying to stick to serving sizes when eating prepackaged foods and snacks

@Hannihar sometimes it's you wait that long you may still feel over fill. It could depends on the type of foods eaten but I've not studied it at all.

I can usually control how much I eat to some extent, although sometimes I still eat more than I should. I am trying to practice mindful eating, though.

@Hannihar - I think women are more likely to tell their doctors when things are bothering them. Men are more hesitant.

I have also overeaten and had to take a bus home and I did not feel good on the bus. When I got off and walked to my home I felt better. I try to listen to my body to what it tells me it feels.

That is right we have to listen to our bodies. I like to tell my doctor when anything goes wrong to let him know what is happening even if it is minor.

It can be a constant battle for me to control my appetite at times. Willpower is my best ally in combating those urges. Also exercise.... They do say drinking a lot of water also helps diminish one's appetite and eating slowly.

Hi DB. I did not eat much yesterday because was not very hungry. I ate already and now on to a minor fast and next week is our Day of Atonement. We atone for our sins we did in the year before and we start fasting the night before and do not eat anything all day. I go to bed before the fast is over and so wake up and drink something. I have been doing the fast of next week since I was 13 years old. Since I came to live in Israel I have been trying to do all the fasts we have. I do eat if not feeling well but drink. Today hopefully I will not drink either.

I found my place in religion here in Israel while on my journey. I feel very comfortable where I am at and I know my G-d is watching me. Thank you so much DB.

@Hannihar I see. Adherence to our religious beliefs are the pillars to a spiritual life and one key to self happiness.... Your commitment is inspiring Hanni!

Good luck with that Hanni. It is always hard to not eat things you like that taste good.
I have a problem with sugar I am trying to give it up.
They say wheat is also a culprit but I must have bread cant give it up.
If I could stop eating late too that would be good.

I can not overeat. No matter how tempting the dish might be. My husband feels that I am a waste to be taken to any buffet meal at a restaurant. I don't eat worth the money.

@Hannihar From childhood I am like that. I love food but if you put too much on my plate, I start sweating. It is a struggle to finish a big portion. I hate wasting food.

I only eat two meals a day and do not eat late at night. After I take my medication I only drink and do not eat anymore till the next day. For minor fast days I get up early and eat and for Yom Kippur and Tiisha B'Av I have to finish up before the fasts start and not eat until after the fast is over. In my case I do not stop fasting till the next morning.

@Hannihar I eat to survive. I do not survive to eat. When my body does actually need food, then I eat. I do not eat just to eat, such as bingeing while watching television. However, I realize there are people with eating disorders.
