Slept over at my boyfriends house for the first time last night

My boyfriend and I have dated on and off for 5 years. Usually once a week he and his son stay overnight at my house. His dog is in heat so I won’t let him bring her here. Yesterday he wanted us to bring some food to grill and ingredients to make s’mores and have a little cook out. I wasnt expecting my kids to ever agree to spend the night so I was shocked they decided they wanted to stay. My kids nor I were able to sleep at all so I’m exhausted today. We had a small dinner at my parents today for Labor Day. I’m writing this from my bed. Saturday I woke up in a terrible mood. We went to my father in laws Labor Day party. All I could think about the whole time was how my boyfriend wouldn’t take his dog to the vet. She may be in heat but its early and he insists she’s fine yet her rear end smells horrible and it’s bleeding. That’s not what happens when a dogs in heat. After talking to a vet friend and pestering him all day he is giving her antibiotics he has. I hope it helps but is really disgusts me how much money he makes yet refuses to take his dog to the vet when she needs it. To top that off he just got two beagles who live outside in a kennel. The only time they will be out of that is when they are out hunting. Boils me! He’s been talking a lot about looking at houses together. I told him at the party how disgusting it is he lets his dog bleed all over his house and that I won’t live with him until she is fixed. He said he won’t live with me until my son goes back to public school . I was so excited to see monarch caterpillars in my butterfly garden. I took photos two days apart and was shocked how much they grew in the time. The photo I attached was the last photo I got before they disappeared

Like @sallypup, I wonder if this guy is worth it but it's not really for me to say. That is a great photo. I've read about the great migrations these butterflies do. They've been introduced into Australia but it seems they don't migrate anywhere.

@sallypup @JudyEv he lived with me for a few months a few years back and it didn't go well. If I live with him I have to go to work so my son will have to go back to school but his attitude made me angry. He is totally against any child being home schooled/cyber schooled.

Sad that your boy friend has no feelings for his animals. I will not use the word pet as pets are treated with kindness. Sorry for those animals.

@allknowing it is very upsetting to me how little care he shows his animals. He loves his lab and spoils her but when she gets sick he does not her her medical care and it really bothers me. The beagels he just is as a tool for hunting. I hate it!

@allknowing unfortunately I cannot afford to take his dog to the vet. After I pay all the bills the only spare money I have to spend on myself is $12. I offered to take her to the vet for him if he paid the vet visit cost but he won't he said she's fine and he will just give her the antibiotics he has.

@LadyDuck if we live together I have to work so my son will have to go to public school I already know that. I told him well then good we will never live together. He didn't say anything after that. His house is filthy that's an easier thing to agree to get your dog fixed he's just being ridiculous.

@LadyDuck two weeks! My friend who is a vet tech thinks she is either having a problem where she may need a hysterectomy or has ruptured anal glands. What I read online I assumed an issue with the anal glands too.

Sounds like a lot of give and take will have to be met in that relationship before you can live together. I don't blame you though, thats disgusting to have a dog bleeding all over, my daughter in law puts a doggie diaper on hers when she is in heat.

@cintol He is stubborn and always has to be right that drives me nuts and I see it as a sign of immaturity. When my dog was in heat a month or two ago I made her wear a diaper. His house is disgusting!

@cintol Thankfully he washed all the couch cushions before we came so my kids had somewhere clean to sit and sleep. He vacuumed and tidied up but it's just not enough. He told me he would give me $50 to clean the house for him. I hate cleaning houses and I don't want to take his money but next time I go out I will take some rags and come and bleach and stuff to clean some. Last week I was looking for silverware and opened the drawers on one side of his house and every drawer was full of mice poop. The last one had the mouse nestled in a roll of tape with crepe paper it had made a bed of. I screamed. Thankfully the side of the kitchen where he does keep his silverware does not have mice poop. I don't know where doesn't put some traps in the drawers and get rid of the mice then clean everything with bleach instead of letting this continue.

@Courtlynn I have tried for years to talk him out of getting beagels but he's got them now. These don't seem to be pets to him just a use for hunting which bothers me. He doesn't even have time to go hunting much so they will just sit in their kennels day in and day out is my guess. I don't know why he thinks it's his business what I do with my son. He doesn't make his kid do homework and that annoys me but it's his kid so I don't harp on him about it.

@shaggin maybe he just wants the alone time with you during that day? or thinks your son wont be as smart doing cyber school? I don't know, but its so wrong for him to even say it. I always wanted a beagle, but wont get a dog anytime soon.

Yeah he needs to get his dog taken care of. And it is not up to him if your son goes back to school or not or if he is schooled at home you have to do what is best for him.

@Tina30219 exactly and just because he thinks cyber schooling is horrible for a kid doesn't mean he is right. There is plenty he does with parenting his own son that I don't agree with but I never say anything. His dog doesn't have a voice so I had to try to talk some sense into him to get her medical care. Stood there at the party talking about how he wants to buy this and that and I told him to use the money towards taking his dog to the vet. Makes me so angry!

@Tina30219 when we lived together for 4 months a few years ago it did not go well. He thinks we just need a bigger place. He is a tad bit right but I think there will be plenty more problems and I have no desire to jump into moving into anywhere with him any time soon.

@shaggin I feel sorry for the dog he should not have it if he is not going to take care of it. I agree with you on the money part he should spend it on his dog not on other things first. It sounds like parenting wise if you guys move in together there might be issues I hope not if you guys do decide to move in together.

Oh no =( Why must your son have to go to public school if he's fine with home schooling!? I could totally not live like that. He should change his habits for everyones well being & of a human being! Why own dogs if you lock em' up =( I am not a dog person.. hence I don't own a dog, but if I did ~ totally would not leave them locked up at all times! That's horrible....... sorry =( Bright side ~ beautiful photo & I hope all is okay besides all that!

@infatuatedbby he learned from his father who breed beagels that they are for hunting. He thinks they perform better when the only time they are let out is to hunt that they will work harder for it. I think it's wrong and I feel bad for the dogs. They aren't pets that way! My boyfriend doesn't think any child should be home schooled or cyber schooled. He is totally against it. It sounds to me if we live with him he is going to be controlling.

Cool picture and thanks for paying me a visit. I'll remember to look some people up from time to time but it's escaped my brain recently although it looks like you've been doing more outside mylot this summer. Which is fine, of course. My daughter began dating a guy recently and they've really hit it off. I wish she'd wait longer before staying the night although she's a grown woman and can take care of herself. We meet him Sunday and I have to get my house presentable which is a larger feat than it should be. I thought it was normal for dogs to bleed when in heat. Is that only until they're spayed, or is it rare? On the other hand we head a female dog from when she was small to about three years and she never bled. I don't know whether she was every in heat though.

@MarshaMusselman I'm never very active here at mylot in the summer. I prefer to be out in nature or doing this with my kids. Mowing the lawn takes up a large portion of my time as well. 3 1/2 acres with a push mower. Before this guy I never let them meet my kids until a very long time. It was a few years before my one ex meet them and when he did it was obvious he couldn't stand kids. If I had let him meet them earlier the relationship would have ended much sooner. This guy kind of burst into our lives just showing up etc. He was great with my kids the first six months after that he didn't really bother and my son for some reason has never liked him.

@shaggin it sounds like you should move on. If he doesn't pay attention to your son anymore then he won't if you stay with him and the disagreements will only get worse. He doesn't sound like a keeper to me and I've not kept up with everything going on like others here. I

Beautiful photo! Those things would be hard for me to take, too. It's probably not my place to say but I think that when one adopts a pet, one must consider all possibilities - that there may be vet bills on top of food, accessories and the like. Also the time commitment and responsibility to the animal. It's partially when I stay animal-free. The fact that he doesn't address what you said about the dog , instead just fires back comments about your son, isn't very responsible on his part imho

@FayeHazel He spent $400 to buy this lab as he wanted a specific breed. I prefer adopting as there are so many great animals that need homes but whatever it's his money and life. However I absolutely agree with you that before you get an animal you need to be prepared for their care. He won't get her fixed and she has a bad hip so breeding her will be bad! I didn't have a dog for 10 years until I felt we were really ready for one. Financially he is way better off then us but I take my animals to the vet when needed he doesn't.

@shaggin I agree with you, I don't fault people if they want a special breed, however there are plenty of worthy and lovable animals at shelters that *need* homes. There is *alot* to consider with pet ownership, and I commend you for considering all of it , before getting a dog, that is responsible.

@YrNemo this was the first time I have ever seen a monarch caterpillar in my yard. They were gone two days later so I am assuming a bird got them. But I have seen many monarch butterflies lately flying around and that has made me happy.
