Remembering my friend's father

A good friend of mine is kind enough to give me some of the old cedar boxes his father used in his business decades back. My friend thinks that his dad put small bottles of wine or Scotch in the boxes and gave them to clients at Christmas. I sand them down, remove the old Logo, stain them up, and give them to friends, kind of like I do with the coasters I make out of guitar sound holes. A couple of sentimental conversations ago, my friend and I agreed that I should make a box to honor his dad, before we run out. I told him I'd leave the Logo on, oil the box lightly, and leave it at that. We both lost our dads early, and wanted to do something to remember them by. I finished this one up this past weekend and gave it to him when I went to dinner at his house this past Sunday night. He found a place for it immediately. I'll attach a picture of the box as I was oiling it up. Do you have objects around the house that remind you of departed loved ones?

Wait, there's no photo! I have a pan that my grandmother (and her mother as well) used for roasting their Thanksgiving ham (they were German, so they preferred ham instead of turkey), as well as the rolling pin she used for making schnitzel (which she called "veals").

The photo should be up by now. Do you think of family when you use the pan or rolling pin?

@TheHorse I can see it now. I do think of my grandma in the kitchen as she used them. I also have a tiny cornhusk doll that she used to have in her curio cabinet. I think it's one that my dad got for her during one of his Wyoming trips (he taught a 2 week research course for biology/parasitology grad students during the summers at Grand Teton National Park when I was a kid).

I have lots of memorabilia, to the point it just about owns me. A good portion of the things I own are glass and are fragile.

I'm glad I don't have too many glass things here. They would be in danger.

Yes, I have got a small wodden statue of Indian God Lord Ganesha which is a inherited to me by parents and that is about more than 150 years old , that always reminds me my grand parents and their ancestors whom I never seen along with my departed father!

I have a horse that a friend gave me. He said it originally came from a temple in India. His father was from Bombay, but we grew up together in Chicago.

This is a very nice box. I have the pocket watch of my father and his fountain pen. My father has worked behind a desk all his life, those were his "daily objects". My husband has a few light bulbs produced by his father factory.

That is a really lovely box. I have quite a few things that belonged to my parents, not quite so many of Vince's parents but there were 7 of them and only 3 of us.

What a wonderful idea! One of my favorite items is my mother's Avon Rapture cologne bottle, from the 1960's.
