Regular job. No brainer--you get regular hours, benefits, a salary, and maybe even a pension or 401(k) or something similar. Some companies give you a car, clothing allowances, computers, cell phones, gas allowances, etc.

Spoken like a teacher, You know most people get 12 dollars an hour if they lucky. Well, at least half of the country and many of them are college educated. Sure Teacher jobs, why my friend who is a social worker said, should have been a teacher. Its good we need that, but at some point need to fix it for the other half.

@andriaperry Indeed, another of my frustrations. Just because it is not typical does not mean I am not working. I hate that streaming on Twitch is not a job, but you make a 100 thousand a year. Damn son, you got the best job ever. That crap drives me nuts.

I consider owning the rental property as a regular job, with and without benefits.

@dgobucks226 I would choose freelance because then you can choose what you want to do. A regular job you have to interview and if get it may hate it. If I am correct freelance is not permanent and you can leave it if you want and find another freelance job.

@dgobucks226 DB, I understand how you would worry about that. Yes it is freedom. I have trying to figure out how to find clients for something I want to do that either people are ashamed to admit they cannot throw things away or still do not want to part with them.

@Hannihar Yep, finding clients for something that's a job you enjoy is a problem of many freelancers.

You definitely have that freedom. My worry would be getting steady enough work to support myself. Also finding affordable insurance, which many jobs offer. It is nice to create your own schedule though...

I would prefer freelance job still if it's profitable enough. No need to work extended hours means more time for yourself and family.

@dgobucks226 Yes. Those are the pros of being a freelancer. There are also cons but I can live with that.

I agree. No dress codes, choosing the type of assignments you do, and making your own schedule are definite pluses. Being able to get enough work to make a nice living is always a concern..

The security of a steady paycheck, job certainty, and other perks like insurance can not be overlooked.

Freelance. My own hours, my own boss. Though I know it would probably be more work, it would be worth it.

To create your own schedule makes freelance work very attractive. To have more control over your life's decisions is something definitely worthwhile.

They both have their pros and cons. If money wasn't an issue, though, I would absolutely choose freelance work. The only reason I don't solely do that is because it is not guaranteed income. Some freelance work can pay pretty well but it's often a lot of work for the money. It's also often something that doesn't pay enough to be able to save and survive on savings if work is slow. I have a full time office job but also do freelance work. Typically, I've been getting more freelance work coming in since I started my full time job. That makes things tricky because do you carry on struggling to fit in the freelance work alongside a regular job? Or do you take on more freelance and leave your regular job, hoping that you can continue to bring in the freelance work? At the moment, I need to be in a financially secure job. If, however, I had another source of income that meant I didn't need to rely on that security then I would prefer the freedom and variation of freelance work over the monotony of the 9 to 5. I'd also prefer to know I could take holidays whenever I wanted, could be there for my family (especially my children) without having to ask someone else's permission.

Thanks so much for your detailed response. You make some excellent points job security being one that really stands out. The freedom that comes with freelance work is very attractive, but securing enough work to leave your full-time employment can be scary. I definitely side with you on your reasoning

It depends on what is your priority in life. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Regular jobs means regular flow of money in your pockets while freelance may not be. Regular Jobs may consume your time since you have to report everyday and complete certain numbers of working hours to get paid, while freelance job may require you little and you can really work at your own pace and time. Right now I have a regular job. I enjoy many perks being a regular employee like the medical insurance and part of my earnings goes to saving for my retirement. Having a regular job also means that I have to spend 8 hours of my 24 hours and is only able to rest on weekends. I also have to travel back and forth from home to work and v.v.

Why not both, if you have the time? And it would be interesting to have two different jobs at that, it keeps life interesting and gives more opportunity to grow. But if I had to pick one, I would go with regular jobs because having stability in life is really important for me.

Yes, both could provide enjoyment, but perhaps less family and friends time. A regular job provides you the option of exploring freelance work without the risk...

Freelance all the way, but will never get the benefits like health, unless you are great at what you do. All about freedom for me, I hate how corporations think they can get away with everything and then treat you like crap and go you should be thanking us because we gave you a job. I am done with that nonsense. If you see me in the gutter, I am alive just please do not kick me in the head.

Ok crossbones, no conks on the head. Definitely hear where your coming from about regular jobs. Working for the man can be tough. I've had a few bosses who were miserable people.

A regular job as it is more secure and has a fixed salary and we are more clear about exoectation. Though it might have the benefits of a freelance work.
