Just ordered a pair of Nike sneakers

I needed a new pair of sneakers for the gym. I normally buy New Balance but there was no question in my mind what brand I was going to get—-Nike. I completely support Colin Kaepernick and Nike’s new ad campaign. Trump’s supporters immediately called for a boycott of the company. Nike’s online sales increased 31% in the first week alone. I am proud to contribute to the second week online sales.

To each their own I always say, and this is one of the things about the free market and capitalism I like. Whether I agree with a company decision or not, the consumers will state their opinion with their wallets. Nike sales overall are down, and so is their stock price. We will see where this ultimately leads. But the real news is that sales of Addidas and others are up considerably since the announcement which pale Nike's little hike in only online sales. Time will tell what this ultimately means, but I LOVE that we can express our opinion with our wallets either way. I will not buy Nike. Of course, I was not a buyer of Nike anyway so my lack of spending won't matter.

@NJChicaa Yeah. It's ugly. But it may also be a knee-jerk response (pardon the well intended pun.) Conservatives still vastly outnumber liberals, and so this will be a time-will-tell thing I think. But it will likely bode badly for Nike in the very near short term.

I don't boycott or start shopping for a brand based on anything, political or otherwise.

I am the opposite @irishidid. I have not pumped Citgo gas, for example, for YEARS. I won't even buy a bottle water in one of their convenience stores. Like Anne Lappe once said, "every dollar we spend casts a vote for the kind of world we want to live in." For the record I eat the heck out of some Chick-Fil-A.

I agree with Jim Bauer. I will never buy anything Nike again, but I'm glad we live in a country where we can voice our opinion with our purchases. It's called capitalism. There are some chicken places (well, maybe one or two) where I like the chicken better than at Chic-Fil-A, but I eat there to support a company I have a ton of respect for. And the food and service really are amazing.

We can all show support with our $$. I don't think Nike is worried about losing money with this campaign.

I'm not in the market for any new shoes right now, but yesterday for the Florida Gators football game I was decked out from head to toe in Nike gear. I kept wondering why people were chasing me with matches trying to light me on fire! haha {just kidding of course...about the fire, not about wearing Nike gear}

@NJChicaa Just keep in mind, for CK this may have been an opportunity to promote social justice, but for Nike this was nothing more than a publicity campaign aimed at making them millions of dollars. If it was anything other than a brilliant marketing move, Nike would be donating all the profits made off of the campaign to important social causes. But still, a bold move for both CK and Nike.

Its amazing what happens when you do the right thing. Now, hopefully Nike returns the favor to their employees. Jim Carey bought a pair also. and put them up on Bill Maher's desk. Lucky he his Jim Carey because I think even Bill was shocked by that move. My favorite is I am going to burn them or throw my pair away. How about you give them to a homeless person. Oh that is right because it is much easier to live in the street expecting free stuff than work. I never will understand where people get this logic from. Of course the new one is many people make good money and pretend to be homeless so they can get free stuff. I am like, yeah, maybe, but doubt it is all that many people doing that because no one likes begging for things and you would have to be totally shameless. If people were so worried about that, why not follow them and show people it happens. It would also call them out. I have yet to see such a story in this day where everything gets showed. Just rumors as normal so people can hate on the poor.
