A small town in New Zealand wants to rid its area of cats. Why? They are on the predator list that is killing insects, birds and lizard and other such native creatures. The population of Omaui is 35 and there are only about 8 cats. But, they also have some feral cats. This small town has forestland behind it. Here's the story in it's entirety:
The village of Omaui might decide to ban cat ownership in a bid to keep them from killing local wildlife.

@celticeagle That is so so stupid. Is there somewhere else that the cat can go where they will be safe?

They woke up late and need to balance the amount of all of the species. I think maybe the feral cats can be taken away. Some researchers need to suggest the appropriate balance in the wild areas. I thought it would make most sense that cats who yawn "maui" will live in Omaui. It makes a righm :-)

Better balance is key.

A garden section columnist had a question about a woman's neighbor who had jays killing songbirds. The neighbor's solution was to put the jays in "bird jail" ---which was a coop or shed in her yard.

That's ridiculous. The'd soon regret that decision when the rats take over.
