Let's get our feet really wet

Here is another photo from the endurance ride we attended on the weekend just gone. The horses had to go through this stretch of water where a railway bridge passed over the Collie River. Some horses aren’t used to going through water and the riders might have to work hard to persuade their mounts that there are nothing is going to eat them. Other horses enjoy cooling their feet and some even try to lie down and roll if the water is shallow. Once one goes through any others that are behind and might have been a bit reluctant are usually quick to follow. Of this group of three, the lead horse was keen to get as wet as he could and enjoyed slamming his hooves down as hard as possible and making a great splash. The girl on the second horse looks a bit nervous doesn’t she?

I agree, the girl on the second horse looks nervous and her horse looks "perplexed".

@JudyEv The first horse seems to have a lot of fun.

@LadyDuck The rider said he wanted to play in every puddle they came across.

It is good they have the first horse to follow or they might have been stuck there for a while.

@JudyEv this one looks like both man and beast are in unison with what to do.

@allen0187 These two have done over 4,400 kilometres together in official rides, not to mention all the miles they'd travel training for the big day. At this point they had already covered 80 kms and had started at midnight. So I guess they should look a bit like a centaur.

Thanks. It was hard to choose which one to put up. I can't access Vin's really good ones at the moment but this is one I took.

Is that you in the second horse. At least you are so adept in riding a horse. I never dared tried riding a horse even when we went to Baguio before where there are small horses you can ride and go around slowly. It must be nervous experience to ride a horse.

I used to ride a lot but I don't ride now. These were all younger women.

@JudyEv Yes, now that we are getting old, we have to be very careful.

What do the riders do if the horse decides it wants to play in the water for a little while? Do they just go with it, or do they fight with the horse to get them to continue on the ride?

Mostly they'll go with it for a while but if the water is too shallow the horse might decide to lie down and roll and then they'd be trying to get its head up and move it along.

I think the horse looks more nervous than the girl. That lead horse is having a great time splashing. The rear horse looks like he wants to join the fun.

Yes, the second horse is a bit apprehensive Once you get one going through, the rest are usually happy to follow. Sometimes a single rider might have to get off and lead their horse through.

Yes she does. Oh my how much fun that would be Judy. I do hope the horses aren´t trying to lie down in the water with a rider on.

Sometimes if you don't keep their head up they will lie down. Some ponies will lie down in a nice patch of sand if the child isn't careful.

It was a nice place to take photos. Vince got a lot of good ones here. Normally there wasn't nearly as much splashing.

The stretch of water made your endurance ride more difficult ,but it made a change for you.The horse that made a splash seemed as if it deliberately drenched the rider.

I had one that would have jumped as far across as possible. Once I got her in water she was fine. But if it was narrow enough we stayed dry. Yes the girl does look a little unsure.

Some of these horses have done a lot of these rides so they get used to all sorts of things.

How I wish to experience horse riding too. You I haven't tried going at the back of the horse and let the horse fly in the dusty path. The girl is so cool and her horse behaved well... contrary to the first in line.
