Imminent danger can sure wake you up

We've lived in NC for many, many years and are used to the threat of hurricanes, as much as anyone ever can be.
We've been through some that didn't do too much (we're about 90 miles from the Atlantic coast.) We've also seen some that did an awful lot of damage to lives and homes. We're so thankful that our home has been spared each time so far.
But when you know there's a hurricane heading right for your neighborhood, it makes you think.
What if our home is flooded or destroyed by the terrible winds? What if all the hundreds of pine trees that my husband has planted over the years are all gone by the end of this week?
What if all the little things that make your home...your home were to be gone for good?
I know there are myLotters who have lost everything in wild fires and tornadoes. My heart really breaks for them. It's never easy to lose your home, whether it's one among hundreds, or the only one. It was YOUR home.
Not so many years ago, people didn't have the advanced warning we have now with hurricanes. Many more lives and property were lost back then.
We get so complacent enjoying the things we've worked for over the years. But if all that were to be completely destroyed, what then?
The Bible tells us that life is just a mist that's here for a little while, then it's gone.
I know it's easy to say that life is more important than things when we still have our "things."
But this approaching storm reminds me that life really is the most important and valuable gift from God Himself. He promised to never leave us or forsake us.
And I'm counting on that Holy promise, no matter what happens.

@1creekgirl We lost our stockade fence and had to take the tree in the center of the backyard down before it landed on our house. We were lucky. My sister had no power for 2 weeks. This was in November when it is cold around here. My best friend's townhouse flooded. They lost the whole bottom floor and her car. No power/heat for over a month.

I totally agree that our families and pets are more important than possessions.

We're sure praying for that or even that God turns it completely away.
