September 10 2017 Sunday Hurricane Irma landed—electricity went off at Noon—it is 11:30 PM now—no a/c—don’t know if I will get any sleep—took a walk—winds still heavy—I have ‘floods’ in 3 places—2 panes were blown out of east window—water leaking in from air conditioning and defrosting fridge is leaving water all over kitchen floor—I think Irma is over—now we wait to get electricity back September 11 2017 Monday Hurricane Irma gone as is my roof—the only Gateway building to lose one (It would take 10 months to get it repaired!) A lot of trees down. September 12 2017 Tuesday Still no electricity—hot day—at 10:30 PM I called 911—thought I was having a heatstroke—medics came—no room at the hospital—they gave me a few ice packs!! September 18 2017 Monday Jackie’s car totaled— 8 th day without electricity—finally came back on at 6:30 PM Looking over my notes for that week I see: John loaned me his fan—Mac gave me a table light—Shirley brought me 2 slices of pizza—Winn Dixie closed—movie theatres closed for a few days—window panes replaced the next day—temperatures were in the 86 and higher range the whole week. Video I made of Hurricane Irma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4TgO465JFg

We are looking down the barrel of H. Florence right now. If she sticks to the center of her cone, we are going to be too close to the eye for comfort when she passes by. I'll try to keep in contact as long as I have power and signal. She's expected to get here Thursday.

@akalinus I was told by a guy who used to fly the hurricane hunter planes that being in the eye of the storm felt like a fly would feel buzzing around inside a thermos bottle.

Important thing is to have water, batteries and a battery operated fan! Good luck! Hopefully the weather people will be wrong as they have been so often in the past!

The eye of Hurricane Jeane went over us. It is eerie. The wind stops and this weird quietness takes over. It is like the world stops breathing. Then maybe 20 minutes later, the wind comes rolling back with force.

Eight days without electricity is too much. They should be required to have emergency generators.

@GreatMartin That's a good point. We can't make people like me suffer by having to fly in old planes.

@kepweng We get our share of bad weather in the winter but no hurricanes.

@kepweng There isn't a country that doesn't have a weather negative whether it is hurricanes, snowstorms, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, fires, etc.

@amadeo That is not allowed!!! Take it easy--relax--let Mike do all the 'heavy lifting'-- don't exert yourself! We are old men and have to conserve whatever energy we have. Love you!

I would be moving out of there so much risk. So sorry to read all this Martin about the damage and what you had to deal with and suffer through. Going to watch the video now.

@GreatMartin My windows were damaged in H. Irma. I had to get them fixed myself.
