Remembering 9/11

Today I offered a prayer for the victims of 9/11. I was in a theater with a friend watching a local movie when someone sent me a text message about the 9/11 attacks. I was in disbelief at first and actually wondered if the message was some kind of a prank. There was no way for me to verify the info so I had to text a few friends who might have had immediate access to news. And then I did get the confirmation that it was indeed a terrorist attack. When I got home, I tuned in to CNN right away and watched the horror. I immediately emailed friends and relatives who lived near the area and asked if they were okay. My cousin actually saw the plane crash into the tower as he was looking out from his office window. My other cousin was stuck in the tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey. My high school best friend was at work in Queens. Of course, I was thankful they're all safe but I was feeling very sad for the world and for all the victims. Did you know someone who perished in the 9/11 attack? Where were you when it happened? How did you feel about it?

We were going for a short vacation in the provinces when I turned on early morning that day the news was already flashing on the TV. Although we were very far from the site. We felt sad and concerned since we do have some relatives living near the area. So my uncle proceeded to call everyone he know from there to verify their safety. I guess most of my relatives there were safe but a little shaken by the events there.

@almostoveryou yup one was supposed to go there to attend to something. But he didn’t pursue it as the first crash had happened already. Lucky him that he procrastinated a bit while else he could be one of the casualties.

It could've happened to anyone in that place anytime. Good to know your kin were safe.

@rsa101 Oh I remember a similar thing happened to my high school batchmate. She was supposed to go on a job interview in that area when she was stalled for some reason and decided to just head back home.

You were at the movies? I was at work. I was in my office and heard a lot of chatter going on in the hallway. I heard somebody say something about a plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. I immediately went into the break room because there was a television there and it was usually always turned on. Sure enough. When I got there there was a news report showing the plane as it crashed into a building. I had a delayed reaction. It took me a few minutes for it to register in my mind that I wasn't watching a movie. I had to convince myself that I was watching something that was real. I thought: Lord help the people of New York. Everything always happens in New York.

Yes, I was at the movies. I had the same delayed reaction when I read the news from my phone. Even until the time I got home and finally tuned in to the news. It was a nightmare; I never thought that something like that could happen anywhere at all.

I didn't know anyone in the attacks. I was home with the TV off and heard about it when I went to work. It was a very sad day for America.
