Had Someone Cook My Meals

There is a lady that lives about four miles from me and she prepares all kinds of meals for a living. She cooks and freezes some and puts other meals together with instructions how to cook. It saves trips to the store, prepping, dicing, etc. I know what it going into these home cooked meals and can choose from so many menus. I added up the gas driving to the store, the ingredients and all the time to cook and it came out a bit cheaper for me to order these plus with my chronic fatigue and bent swollen fingers/hands, it's worth it. I decided to look on her keto list and order ten meals to try. I picked them up today and thawed out the zucchini beef bake and warmed it up. It was a very large portion and I saved half for dinner. Oh, my. The taste was like what my grandmother used to make. It has a flavor I've only tasted with my grandmothers cooking. I must ask for the spice or what it is she used. I made carrot french fries with it. The other meals I ordered: spinach artichoke chicken, chile verde, zucchini stuffed tacos, asian chicken, creamy mexican chicken, steak veggie kabobs, cauliflower pizza casserole, lemon garlic chicken, beef fajitas, and keto beef chili. I am trying to eat right for the next two weeks before my next trip. I had too many carbs from this one and don't feel good from it. These meals will help when I'm too tired to cook. I think tomorrow will be the beef fajitas. Do you meal prep or use a meal cooking service?

I always prepare all my meals buying fresh ingredients and doing everything from scratch. The taste of homemade food is so much better.

@LadyDuck these kinds of meals, however, are home cooking and use no preservatives and for those who have difficulty cooking at home they are a lifesaver. Blue Apron includes all the ingredients, fresh herbs etc and I cooked it myself, I just didn't have to shop for all the individual ingredients.

It is for sure. I've been buying most fresh lately and I'm feeling better physically too.

I used to subscribe to hello fresh which isn't quite the same. You have to prepare and cook the meal. There is a place not too far from me that I want to give a try. I actually have eaten their prepared meals before but it's been years. It's Called Simply Southern Cuisine and I think it's a small business. It's much the same as what you have done. I am going to have to see about giving it a try this fall and winter.

@noni1959 I agree with you there. I think my family relies a little too much on processed foods to be honest.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm trying to cut down on box, can etc and lately my cupboard is almost bare because of this. It makes a difference for sure. I do keep beans and things like that but no more of those mac and cheese and other processed foods.

I think even for a few days worth of food is worth it to have in the freezer instead of processed foods in a box.

I tried Blue Apron and enjoyed it. When I worked I used a place called Pasta Vita and I would pick up a weeks supply of meals at a time. Sounds like a great idea to me.

I never tried Blue Apron. I worry about deliveries since I live a half mile from the tiny road leading to my house and we have two gates going up that drive due to horses so the UPS and Fedex drivers aren't keen delivering here. They will but never seem to update tracking so we know to drive down and look.

I prepare and cook my own meals. I've had coworkers ask me to prep/cook meals for them in the past. It is a nice idea but I've always refused. I'm a good cook but not professionally trained or insured so I don't want the liability.

I understand the worry of liability. I don't think it's always professionally trained. Some are very good cooks naturally.

@noni1959 I am a very good cook. That isn't the issue. That's why people WANT me to cook for them. I just don't want to deal with the liability.

There are many starting businesses cooking for busy working couples. I think this helps those who need to portion and have a time cooking themselves. I don't have much money to spare but using it at least 15 days a month will help a lot.

@thislittlepennyearns I love creating and finding good recipes but some days I'm so exhausted to do so. I want something healthy I can grab.

You just made me so hungry. I love to cook but since I am alone I get lazy so I make sure I have frozen meals on hand to just heat up. I do try to make something for myself at least twice a week. Then If I make too much I have leftovers too.

I like to cook extra to freeze for later. Tomorrow I plan to cook up a lot of ground turkey and have some with a salad and then freeze the rest to have on hand. I like to make big pots of thick stews and freeze in individual containers. The lady does a lot of that too but I can't afford each meal purchased and like to cook when I have the energy.

I would love to try a meal cooking service. Those meals you picked sound really good. So far I'm still doing my own shopping and cooking

I do some weekly prepping of my own and freeze. I have a hard time lately with standing prepping too long.

We make our own meals but I can understand how this would be a great boon for you with being unable to stand for too long, etc.

It gets hard. I have some days I can food prep and will make some to freeze and have to pull from the refrigerator. It's just getting harder and fewer days to be able to do it.

Sometimes siblings are the one who cooks our food and sometimes if they are too lazy, we have neighbors who sell foods and we just buy from them.

That's a pretty good idea. You saved time and at the same time you help someone to earn a living.

It does. She is doing so well she had to move to a larger kitchen and able to afford to do so. I'm glad she found her living in what she loves to do.
