Great News at the Neurologist's Monday

Monday my husband had two appointments, the first at the occupational therapist and the second at his new neurologist. The first visit was very productive. Kate, the therapist, gave us some great ideas for some things for our house that might make things a little easier for my husband. In case you don't know, he has Parkinson's Disease. Then we had a second visit with the new neurologist. She was very impressed with how well my husband is doing and she says that the exercise that we do makes all the difference. He was able to sign his name beautifully, we were all impressed, he has never written this well!! His medication will stay the same and we don't need to see her again until we get back from Florida. It was a very good visit and we left there feeling very optimistic about the progression of the disease at least in the immediate future.

@BelleStarr I live about 4 hours away from my parents, so when my dad passed away two years ago, it didn't hit me until I got in the truck and started driving down to be with the family. I cried the entire 4 hour drive down. And then I cried again the 4 hour drive back up. I hate to say this, but it felt good to cry like that and get it all out of my system.

I am very happy for you and your husband. Your trip to Florida can be more relaxing how your husband is doing so well. My mum lives in a care home due to her dementia and she was awake when I visited her on Monday. The last two times I saw her she was asleep.

I know that feeling, my mother often didn't know me or wake up when I came to visit her at the care home.

How old is your husband, and what did the surgeon say about progression?

@BelleStarr That sure is good news. I read B complex is essential for it.

My husband is 71, it is a neurologist not a surgeon, there is no way to completely stop the progression but the exercise we do has helped to slow things down.

There is no cure for Parkinson's so he won't improve, the best we can hope for is to keep it under control.

@BelleStarr Yes there are diseases with no cure and we can only work to manage it and keep it under control. They become our companions for life.

I worked as a home care person for a couple of years and had some clients with parkinsons. That was nearly 20 years ago now and even then the best people (in my opinion) were the OT's as they came up with ingenious ideas for devices and gadgets to help people stay more active and independent. Glad to here they're doing well for you and your husband
