Noise and More Noise

A couple of days ago I had a headache that wouldn't quit. I had a blog post I needed to write with a fast-approaching deadline, and I don't do anything well when I have a headache.
I was trying to finish the books I was blogging about, but there was an awful noise like a really loud hum or mild roar. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from so I got dressed and went out to see what my neighbors were doing.
Then I saw one of those trucks in the driveway a few houses down with a hose extending into the house. It might have been a carpet cleaning truck, but it sure made a noise that was vibrating my headache. Luckily I had my nest referred to in a recent post (http://www.mylot.com/response/3211051/19975873"), and I had some white noise to turn on. The truck finally left. I had a few hours to read in peace.
Then my husband wanted to watch a program so I left the living room again. It was time to open the windows since it was beginning to get cool enough to turn off the A/C. It was then the dings started. I looked out the window and discovered that the backup noises from construction vehicles were the new source of noise pollution.
I live three blocks from the freeway ramp where they are doing something noisy during the night. I could see the bright lights from my window and I could hear not only the backup dings, but also loud engine noises and some clangs. I retreated to my "nest" in the bedroom again. I was hoping they wouldn't keep up the noise all night. I would not have gotten any sleep.
Finally the really noisy activity stopped. It was a good thing, too, since I needed to start writing. I knew I had a dental appointment the next day and that night I needed to publish the blog post. I still fought the headache until bedtime.
I'm very thankful the headache stayed away yesterday and so far today -- in spite of the dentist appointment. It's actually been a good day and I got a lot done.
How has your day been?

Mine was pretty good. Hope you have a good day today again. Mine will depend on traffic in town when I get there.

@wolfgirl569 That's a shame. Most of our drivers here are considerate, unless they are from somewhere else.

@bagarad Not usually heavy traffic at the time I go in, just rude inconsiderate drivers.

That did get on your nerves ! I don't know what the "nest" that can make white noise is like.

@changjiangzhibin89 It's a very small enclosed fan designed to make a noise but not blow air. I sounds like a quiet engine or a loud fan. It is about six inches in diameter and sits on the table beside my bed.

The nest doesn't make the noise. My white noise machine I keep in that room makes it to drown out the noises that keep me awake at night. Unfortunately, when I have a headache I don't like any noise, including the white noise. It's just less annoying than other noises.

You endured quite a cacophony of noise there for a while. Is it often like that?
My day has been quiet so far. My phone woke me up with a weather alert early this morning. Since school is closed, I've been playing with my dog, Ace, and here on myLot.

It is often noisier than I like in the city house. The gardeners take turns between my neighbors' homes so there seems to be one near me running power equipment daily. On weekends the few homeowners that don't have gardeners mow and blow and go.
Take care during this storm. I suppose you've taken all necessary precautions. I hope so.

@bagarad Does the lawn work go on all year, or do you get a break in winter?
We've prepared as best we know how. We've been through a few storms before. None quite like Florence. She's bigger than two of the others put together.

There is a dog in the vicinity that barks through the day and night. It used to bother me but my system has now grown with it and I do not notice it any more

I hate noise, too. My home is next to a road. There is always the noise of cars.

Yes. They aren't good companions to have at the same time or at any time.

It's awful when you have a heap of things to do and have a headache into the bargain.

I also need to write 3 blogs.

Thanks for reading the post. I appreciate it. What I learned while writing it really motivated me to stop stalling and start decluttering. I want my house back. Both of them. I'm going to keep track of it here.
