A field of sunshine

My mother said that sunflowers are the only flowers with ‘flower’ on it’s name. (Correct me if she’s wrong.) She was so fascinated with its large yellow blooms when she was pregnant with me that she almost named me after it. (That would have been hilarious.) Although admittedly, my mood would always seem to perk up whenever I see sunflowers smiling back at me. Or was it just my imagination? Anyway, do you know that sunflowers follow the sun’s movement across the sky from east to west? They track the sun in a process called heliotropism and I choose not to bore you with the science of it all. Instead, why don’t you look at the photo above and try to find me? :)

Yes, I know that the sunflowers follow the sun and they are not the only flowers that turn toward the sun, also the poppies, the marigolds and the daisies.

@sol_cee Yes, your Mom is correct, they turn toward the sun. I had sunflowers in my garden and I liked to look at their "heads" during the day.

There are many fields of sunflowers where I live. People can go there and pick as many as they like. There is a box beside the road and a sign with the price for one sunflower. Believe it or not, people leave money in the box.

@sol_cee I haven't heard about this but think it's a good idea. Not all people are bad, the majority is honest. Yet, one bad apple can spoil the fun.

@MALUSE there are many unmanned shops in Japan. I have no idea how they survive.

It's like a version of an 'honesty store'. There are no staff members to man the shop and customers just get what they like and leave their payment in a box.

@sol_cee Oh, if you only know Sol. I wanted to have my own garden with different kinds of flowers. Not just flowers as well as needed vegetables too. One time, I was looking for houses on the internet that has a space in the back of the house where I can have my mini garden. I always wanted to have a mini garden ever since. Where I can grow roses in different colors, tulips, but I know it's impossible to have tulips here. Then I can have my vegetables too, like onions, garlic, tomatoes and a lot more. For sure it will help me fight with stress.

What a great field to be in the middle of, I love sunflowers and we grew them at our old house one year. My daughter went out and pulled all the seeds out of them and roasted them in the oven. They were pretty tasty

@sol_cee Our sunflowers are full of sunflower seeds, they are the entire brown part of the flower in front. If you look really close you can pop the seeds out of the brown part of the flower.

I found a kind of white morning glory flower with the name 'moonflower' (very ordinary looking), and another kind of exotic looking Borage 'starflower'. Guess there are more, but sunflower is the most famous one I think.

Yes sunflowers do look good when in groups like the one in your pictures. I did try cultivating it once when my mother brought seeds. Unfortunately, I was not successful in growing one. I do not know how to grow them but they really looked lovely when in full bloom and everything.

@sol_cee I like plants but I am not good in cultivating plants. My Grandfather has a green thumb. Everything he plants would 99% sure that it will grow and survive. But in my case I would have a hard time letting it grow.

They are awesome flowers but here I could not get right into the field of them but I did stand by them and felt the power and how huge they are too. Farners here grow their sunflowers so you can see them but not get close into their fields which is a bit sad really.
